Congratulations, you just acquired (or downloaded) a DVD-ROM with videos
from fisl8.0 - International Free Software Forum 2007. This DVD-ROM
contains videos in Ogg/Theora format [1] as well as a MS
Windows and a MacOS X player [2], along with a multi-plataform Java
player, which is started as default.

Different GNU/Linux distros include VLC in different ways, such it'll
not be difficult to find a version that fits.


Installation
------------

This is a data DVD-ROM and, as such, doesn't need to be installed. 
The players can be installed in the traditional way for each operating system. 
The Theora codec is becoming relatively common, which means that it's 
possible that your operating system is already prepared to play it with a 
different player than that we provided.


DVD-ROM format
--------------

This DVD-ROM was recorded in an hybrid hfs and iso9660 with Rock Ridge
and Joliet extensions format to allow it to be viewed by the majority
of operating systems. It's possible that in some systems the filenames
become truncated due to this format, despite the efforts to avoid that.
Unfortunatelly, that is a limitation we have no control over.


Licensing
---------

Initially, all the files in this DVD-ROM are licensed under a "Creative
Commons Attribution - Non Commercial - Share ALike" license. Although 
there are some exceptions that are stated in detail in the COPYING.en,
COPYING.pt files.


Final Aknownledgements
----------------------

It is very hard to put together a work this big with no financial
support at all, based only in volunteer work and in the personal
commitment of several Free Software activists. 

In 2005, when we had our first experience and distributed fisl6.0 videos
only via Internet, we had an approximate 50% loss in the total number
of videos recorded sue to errors in the primary storage media (DVD).

This really saddened us, and leaded us to a different strategy for
fisl8.0: we recorded all the videos directly in the encoder machines.
Even so, unpredicted problems (machine over-heating, hard-drive
corruption) leaded to a 70% loss. Despite this improvement, we consider
this number absurdly high.

These problems happened, lastly, for not having a financing source for
this project. This leaded us to start a campaign to seek financing
specifically for the Free Software TV. If you can help, even just with
your own work, get in touch with ASL [4]. Our licensing allows
non-commercial redistribution of this DVD-ROM contents; although, if you
acquired your copy from an authorized dealer, know that you have
already helped, and for that you thank you very much.
