1/12 RX-78-2 Gundam Model Kit
You read that right: 1/12.
Dubbed the “HYPER HYBRID MODEL 1/12 RX-78-2 GUNDAM”, this model kit (if you can call it that) will be on sale in Japan from December 16 for a reasonable price of just 350,000 yen (roughly 3000 USD). Perfect Grade, eat your heart out.
According to ITmedia News, the model kit consists of roughly 260 parts and has 14 movable points that use metallic parts for additional support. Using a special remote control, you can even play sound effects and make the lights located in the vulcan gun barrels flash.
This is a continuation of the large size Zaku that was sold 5 years ago for 207,900 yen. A total of 1500 Zaku was sold.
I’m guessing this guy will be getting himself a few of this.

Say, does the beam sword come out? :D That’d be a heck of a conversation piece, methinks – “Whoa – what’s that Gundam doing to that Animal Crossing diorama you’ve got set up?”

I dunno. The bigger it gets, the less impressive it feels. Its seems less of a model kit and more as just a background display piece, no different than one of the same size made of foam or a single piece of plastic.
Since you can’t hold it in your hand, what are you going to do? Have it sit next to you as you watch Gundam? lol

“Stop! I have a Gundam, and I know how to use it!”

If you could put the right motors and sensors in it, I’d bet it’d make a dandy wireless camera holder, and if you could put in a few more things… maybe we could get a robot kit to fit into this thing?

My friend has it (he and his cousin got 3), and I’ve seen it. All I can say is… it’s awesome. Sounds and LEDs are cool, but some of the parts seem kinda cheap. Overall though, it’s really impressive. Making poses is hella fun.
