Sumomo mo Momo mo – Saikyou OX Keikaku
So, instead of spending last night dong last minute revision for the Higher Chinese O’level paper which I just took a few hours ago, I decided that it was a futile struggle and translated the OP of Sumomo mo Momo mo instead. This song has the coolest lyrics that I have ever seen. Seriously.
But before that, I just want to add a note about Sumomo mo Momo mo’s title. 李 (sumomo) means “plum”, 桃 (momo) means peach and particle “mo” means “also” or “too”.
The title is actually derived from a popular Japanese tongue-twister 「李も桃も桃の内」 (“sumomo mo momo mo momo no uchi“), literally, “Plums too, peaches too, they are in peaches”, or to put it in English, “Plums and peaches are both part of the peach family.”
Yeah, the title of the anime is not actually nonsense. Shock! As to what plums and peaches imply in Japanese, I’m not really certain. The song seems to use them as metaphors of child-bearing/pregnancy, I think? Or maybe chastity. Whatever.

It sounds like it’s one of those things that could easily be a double entendre, there are a few in English (anyone old enough to remember Mrs Slocombe from “Are you being served”, and “Her Pussy”? Just the title today would have a whole different meaning in the USA ;-).
Generally peaches are commonly meant to resemble backsides in Australia at least.
Given the other lyrics in the song I thought it was some reference to family, since the tongue twister on which the author says it is based refers to plums and peaches, being of the same family.
Don’t get hung up on the name, it is probably because it is a common Japanese tongue twister that it made it as a title – so lets not try to read too much into it.
I’ve seen releases by 3 different groups, and the lyrics are all slightly different.
Great show though, gives me a good laugh

A little thing, but the third line is actually “To become a woman liked by ‘you’”. A little mistranslation, definitely not “men” here. Also, this whole song sounds like saying to a particular loved person.
