JLPTにさよなら!…多分。
The end is close. This will hopefully be the last JLPT paper that I will ever have to take in my life. Never again will I have to travel to that god forsaken school located in the middle of nowhere to suffer for hours, enduring freezing coldness and uncomfortably small chairs.
Yup, I just received my JLPT notification. The test venue is Japanese School (Changi Campus) yet again. Looks like I will never get a chance to take the test in one of the more easily accessible alternative test sites. Maybe it’s just destiny.
So, who else is awaiting the arrival of December 3rd? :P

For some reason, I got the JCS as my test venue this year instead. That also means that I won’t be seeing all my friends, including you.
November 19th, 2006 at 11:01 pm
Oh, I just realised that 1 is in the afternoon while 2 is in the morning , so we wouldn’t be seeing each other anyway.
November 19th, 2006 at 11:42 pm
Good luck with the exam, DM!
November 19th, 2006 at 11:50 pm
Good luck m8!! :O
November 20th, 2006 at 12:08 am
I’m like taking my first ever JLPT, that is JLPT3. I must suck at it or something since my scores vary like mad when I do the TYSes. I got 374/400 for 2005 paper but 200+/400 for 2004 paper.
I’m scared DM-sensei. Tell me how you studied for your low-level JLPTs. Some vocab/grammar aren’t even taught yet dammit.
November 20th, 2006 at 12:43 am
I’m not awaiting the arrival of Dec. 3rd, I’m dreading it. :)
Level 2 BTW. And I’m gonna fail like no one else in the history of the Universe. They’ll name the new unit of failure after me.
The kanji/vocab and the listening parts are so-so, but the last part, the reading/grammar seems really hopeless. There aren’t enough time.
The bad thing with this JLPT (both Level 1 and 2) is that they don’t test your ability to use the language in real-life situations, they require the knowledge of some never used, archaic and confusing grammar instead.
November 20th, 2006 at 12:56 am
kikuchiyo, I’m also taking JLPT L2 on Dec 3.
I’d say that the JLPT to anime watchers is somekind of identity.
Where it prove me how much we can see from the raws.
November 20th, 2006 at 1:05 am
I’ll be taking JLPT 2. お互い頑張りましょう!
November 20th, 2006 at 1:12 am
ps.
it seems that, according to http://www.jcss.org.sg/jlpt.html , the first 180 registrants for JLPT 1 will be taking the test at JCS. Apparently, if you register first you get a “better” test venue?
November 20th, 2006 at 1:17 am
How long have you been studying Japanese?
It’s been just over a year for me and i’m somewhere between L3 and L2…
I’m envious :\
November 20th, 2006 at 1:27 am
I’m awaiting December 3rd as well! =) I’ll be taking Level 4 this time, though I’m pretty sure I could pass Level 3 since I’ve been studying Japanese for about two years. I actually just wrote a post about the JLPT on my blog as well ^^
Anyway, good luck to everyone who’s taking the test!

“Maybe it’s just destiny.”
Sure it is. or maybe it’s one of those yakusa orchestrated conspirasies. Who knows….
November 20th, 2006 at 2:09 am
Oh, just one more thing; about the title of the post, isn’t “sayounara” written “さようなら” not “さよなら”? Well, you’re the expert, so maybe I’m wrong ~_^
November 20th, 2006 at 2:11 am
Uuu. I plan on taking that test next year or the year after. 死んじゃう~
How is that test anyways~? I think I’d do alright on everything but kanji. I only know about 500.
November 20th, 2006 at 2:13 am
Good luck, DarkMirage and everyone else taking the exams~
I’m curious, guest, as to how you’re studying? Know any good places to learn here in England?
November 20th, 2006 at 3:46 am
How many languages do you know, DM?
November 20th, 2006 at 6:37 am
:Mark
Self-study. If there is a place to be taught here, it probably isn’t anywhere near me. And I couldn’t afford it anyway.
November 20th, 2006 at 7:21 am
Well I’m taking 4 this year, and I got the afternoon shift and changi location too… One hell of a way to celebrate my birthday :|
Goddamnit I want at least 360/400 :X
November 20th, 2006 at 8:17 am
Wow wow wow. So many questions.
LianYL: eroge and song lyrics.
kikuchiyo: No way. You use lvl2 grammar in real-life ALL the time. Archaic forms are in lvl1.
stevency: lol.
Soulshift: おっす!
guest: Almost exactly 4 years.
Yumeka: Both are used.
Tess: Depends on the level. Lvl 4 and 3 don’t really require much kanji knowledge.
Beowulf: Three. English, Japanese and Mandarin Chinese.
November 20th, 2006 at 9:32 am
I’ll be taking Level 1 this year at the Todai (Tokyo University) Arts & Sciences campus… which is awesome for me since I live across the street from the school. Hopefully, I won’t fail level 1 like I did last year. T_T
Good luck on your test (I assume you’re taking level 1)!
November 20th, 2006 at 9:54 am
Haaa.. I want to study Jap in a classroom too, but I can’t… all I know of Japanese is what I’ve learned from anime and songs. Still, Lucky me, I’m Korean meaning that the syntax+kanji isn’t much of a problem, haha.
November 20th, 2006 at 10:49 am
Level 1?! Dayamn!
November 20th, 2006 at 6:37 pm
絶対合格よ。

November 24th, 2006 at 5:35 pm
JLPT4 for me….
its so difficult……… LOL
btw any online english/japanese dictionary to recommend?
November 24th, 2006 at 11:26 pm
LOL tkaing JLPT 1 like DM (however im sure i wont make it) to those taking lvl 2, er..its like what DM said, lvl 2 is what japanese people use all the time so try to master it ^^. lvl 1 is yeah archaic? weeeeee, good luck to all pple taking jlpt regardless of level ( to those taking lvl 2, since its mostly general knowledge of the language, if u have difficulty, its most likely u are not up to it yet) but still all the best.
