Lucky Star Licensed
Uh, what? Okay, so Kadokawa USA decided to skip the pre-license tease and get straight to the announcement this time. The R1 release of Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu Vol.4 contained a short translated clip from Lucky Star episode 16.
I haven’t received my Haruhi Vol.4 DVD yet, so I don’t know if there’s anything else in there. But long story short, Lucky Star is licensed. Video embedded after the break.
Actually, I wonder how well Lucky Star will fare… It’s definitely not Haruhi’s kind of awe-inspiring existential sci-fi high school moé adventure, and the otaku jokes get quite hardcore on some occasions. How many anime fans in America have actually heard of Animate‘s tenchou?
And slightly off-topic, I really hate what Bandai did to the limited edition R1 releases for Haruhi. The DVDs come with way too much useless crap and the thin cardboard box feels cheap. I would gladly do without the Haruhi hair ribbon and other miscellaneous trinkets in exchange for cooler-looking and more durable DVD packagings. I still bought them anyway but that’s only because I’m an idiot. Oh well.

It’s ok, me too, 9 days till the last DVD comes out over here.

i got all the LE DVDs for the original Broadcast order except for the first one which did not contain an additional DVD.
And heck Lucky Star is a must buy. I just can’t miss Montekke Serra Fuku on my 42 inch plasma.
Wonder whether there will be LEs for Lucky Star…
This also means that all the Lucky Star soundtracks shud be getting licensed in English, so its probably a good idea to hold off purchasing them for now.

Well, the idea was more that those cardboard boxes weren’t meant to be where the DVDs were kept… the box that the first volume came with is for the storage of all the DVDs. But… yeah, I get what you mean, especially since I just leave them in those flimsy boxes as well.
While its predictable that they used the scene, I can’t help but think thats misadvertising… it makes it seem like Lucky Star is some kind of Haruhi spin off or something. Which it obviously isn’t.

I think it might do quite well. I mean, *that* scene was the real reason why I started watching Lucky Star anyway :D It would probably get enough curious Haruhiist to make it popular.
October 28th, 2007 at 9:19 pm
lol just to watch that scene alone, i’m pretty sure 80% of the haruhiists out there would watch Lucky Star. Come to think of it, that was how I started watching Lucky Star too
October 28th, 2007 at 9:57 pm
i started watching because of the hype too watched ep 1, loved the food talk. i guess that was the best in the show so far. oh and the various endings.

I hope there will be LE´s. I love useless crap and more Lucky Star merchandise is welcome.
October 28th, 2007 at 10:10 pm
Maybe they will include Konata’s pantsu this time.
October 28th, 2007 at 10:38 pm
what the hell?? konata’s pantsu?? i prefer kagami though.
October 28th, 2007 at 10:40 pm
Pantsu? How bout her bra? wait, konata doesn’t need any….. wonder how they going to dub this.

I actually WAS looking forward for all that crap, like the ribbon. That being said, I was very disappointed when I received it. I thought it would be a simple yellow ribbon, ready to be tied up in whichever way the user wished. Instead, we get this thing already pre-shaped in the way Haruhi uses it. Additionally, the fabric feels like shit. This wood look like crap in any Haruhi cosplayer. Real shame… I’ve only received the first DVD, so I hope the rest of the stuff doesn’t suck as well.

Uh..weren’t there already dubs for LS for quite some months now? I recall seeing a LS engdub on youtube… there wouldnt have been the dub if it wasnt licensed
October 29th, 2007 at 7:11 am
they should include a bottle of balsamic vinegar.
for the lulz.

“While its predictable that they used the scene, I can’t help but think thats misadvertising… it makes it seem like Lucky Star is some kind of Haruhi spin off or something. Which it obviously isn’t.”
And that’s the reason why it has a shot of doing well in America. If, say, they used the food scene in ep 1; Sure I loved it, and so do a few others. But I can’t help thinking that the majority of people ended up with “WTFLOL” looks on their faces after ep 1 =/
Hey, maybe bipolar girl will make LS sell.

A dvd release of minoru’s various ending should be worth the bucks too!

Personally I didn’t really like most of his EDs. I loved the anime song karaoke EDs for the first half of the series, though.

Bought the limited editions for various stuff.
Most and foremost, limited editions rule if they are in within a certain spending fee.
Other than that, iron on, now all I need is some nice clothes and I´ll probably make a fool out of myself with Haruhi-Ism and SOS dan on atleast one pair of clothing :p
And will most likely buy this as well when it arrives. If I have the funds for it…
But all in all, great news :)
And yes, it was a little intruging with Animate´s Tenchou, since all earlier experience with him was from Akane Maniax. So I was wondering a little what his story was. But then again, I must have missed more than so.
Always fun to go back to a series to see how much you missed the time before isn´t it?
October 29th, 2007 at 8:31 pm
“How many anime fans in America have actually heard of Animate’s tenchou?”
Ones who watched Lucky Star beforehand? :P
Fun news, though I’m not expecting it to sell well.

I’m curious how they’re going to emulate Konata’s voice in the dub. They’d probably hire Wendy Lee again though since she did dubbed Haruhi.
BTW I’ve never really seen the dubs. How’s the voice acting?

No idea but lets hope she’s talented. That scene where Aya changed voices back and forth from Konata to Haruhi was pretty good =/

I just noticed Kagami’s ‘yare yare’ which I can’t believe I missed before. I guess bandai’s good for something…
