“Boys’ School” Cafe in Harajuku
Everyone enjoys a spot of non-authentic afternoon tea in Cure Maid Cafe or Mai:lish, but apparently letting pretty girls serve you hot beverages is simply not good enough for the fujoshi in Japan. They want cute boys instead. The nerve.
In order to fill this market demand, some consulting firm decided to open a “Boys’ School Cafe” in Harajuku that hires real male students to serve as waiters in school uniforms. The main customer base is women around 20 to 30 years old. The menu is the usual overpriced semi-Western (but not really) fare found in most maid and cosplay cafes, i.e. 1,300 yen for an unappetizing plate of pasta or Japanese curry and 300 yen for a cup of soft drink. The shop functions as a cafe in the afternoon and a bar at night.
Take a look at Cafe Edelstein’s official site. I wonder if they get any male customers?

lol will such a shop really survive… I have high doubts about it. Putting the attraction of the cute boys aside, the exorbitant prices indeed put one off already.

If we have one of these kind of cafe in Singapore, maybe DM should work there part time =)

Actually you’d be surprised…
The price is actually not that expensive for Tokyo and people there are quite open to these things. Bulter cafes have been doing well, after all.

Hmm I didn’t know about the butler cafes…..maybe I will be down to check it out end of this year. I wouldn’t mind working there though.
Darky I have a suggestion……maybe you should dress up as Haimoni (Hayate’s alter ego) from Hayate No Gotoku and go work there. I bet those cosplay girls will drape themselves over you. xD
*is going for Riyu Kosaka’s Year End Concert @ Yokohama!!!*

800 Yen for a Beer. Taht’s pretty cute. And i thought the Stuff they selled in Cologne was way too expensive…(Well, 0.2l softdrink for 360 Yen is pretty bad. But the beer was cheaper^^)
And why does this thing have to have a german name. They reall like that, hm?

When 1300 yen (roughly $13.0 AUD) sounds cheap for a plate of pasta, you know you’re living in a place where the cost of living is too bloody high…
Hell, when I went to Tokyo earlier this year, the daily hotel rate was less than my apartment’s rent. So if you think Tokyo is expensive, stay away from Canberra.

I’m guessing they’re seeking males in desperate need of money. What would any straight male student do if he was working and some 30 year old dude started hitting on him.

uumm… I doubt if they’ll success.
As long as I remembered, 1st school themed cafe in this area is Ecole(Konami’s Tokimeki Memorial themed cafe).

It opened in Nov/2005, and shut down in Jul/2007. So they couldn’t sustain the cafe less that two years.
Another negative reason: There’re already butler cafes [Checkmate@Akihabara, and Swallowtail@Ikeukuro].
Yesterday, I read an Swallowtail regarding article.

Accourding to that, They said that an booking must be needed one month(!) before.
Butler cafes are strong competitors to this new gakuen cafe…
