Thai Bishoujo Game
Here’s your daily dosage of “WTF everything I hold to be true and dear in this reality has been torn apart and disintegrated.” Angel’s Tale from StudioGU is a bishoujo game made in Thailand. Yes, the one in Southeast Asia.
Uh, I don’t know about you guys, but I don’t exactly associate Thailand with bishoujo games. Although Kotaku says that this game is ero, I don’t see anything that supports this claim. (And Kotaku is generally wrong about otaku-related stuff anyway, despite its namesake.) But I can’t say for sure either way since I can’t read Thai to save my life.
Promo and gameplay videos embedded after the break.
Judging from the videos, the quality of the game looks to be on par with most doujin releases. It actually looks not bad on the whole. StudioGU just needs to get the game some voice overs and it will be all set for prime time! (Probably.)
Come on guys, Singapore needs to invest in this emerging market too. It has great growth potential. (I can offer my “professional” service as a story writer.)

Singapore is a place without moe… Japan has GALs, China has GALs, Now Thailand is joining in, but Singapore seems to be never possible… So sad fact… BTW, Singapore gov seems to be not support GALs with ero?

What the…? Why is l-lawliet the default name in my computer?
Back to topic.
I can’t say. Thailand has too many good potential settings to induce an environment suitable for creating a galge. I mean, tolerant culture (where in the world do a culture accept bisexuals and transsexuals, and buff it up with Buddhist beliefs), wide open spaces, many pan-Asian models etc. The list goes on, I mean, the cultural similarities between Japan and Thailand seemed odd, isn’t it? But that’s the only plausible answer I can give, to answer the question of “Why Thailand can, Singapore can’t?”
I guess I can imagine the relationship between Singapore and her neighbours:
The rest of ASEAN – screenwriters
Singapore – The Big 5 “Name your RIAA-member companies” hub

Stupid. I go and post up l-lawliet’s name. I hereby declare the one above mine.

And I almost posted using TP’s name.
Well given the fact that Singapore gave a M18 rating for Mass Effect for the the most banal of all reasons, I doubt Singapore really has the growth potential for a gaming industry.
I had always wanted to be a music producer for a game company, and become Asia’s Frank Klepacki. After reading through demographics, I realised that Singapore does not have a base foundation for game developers. Meaning, we don’t have potential long-term investors, good media law and broadcasting codes, a tolerant culture (look at all the ratings by MDA!) and a holistic education system.
The last one is particularly important, as you know that most of us students sit down to exams to regurgitate and plug the information into questions we have practiced and done for the hundredth time. We don’t have alot of critical thinking and creative evaluation.
The reason why Singapore can’t is because of social stigma. The reason why we can is that there are people like DM around to play all the eroge any developer is willing to make.
Just my 2 cents.

I’ll be very surprised if this game does not feature a trap.

Dude…
When I was just starting into stuff like I’ve Sound and the lot, I came across a Thai site with lots and lots of downloadables like desktop mascots and clocks, the characters that were featured come from eroge like not just TH and Kanon but even some of those oldies like With You.
Some of them seem to be wiser than you think.

there’s a typo with “Angle’s Tale” in the 2nd line
should be “Angel’s Tale” shouldn’t it?

So we have girls posing as boys in Japan’s eroge while boys pose as girls in Thai’s eroge. Head asplode.
I’ve been to the country a couple of times, and while we Filipinos look 99% the same as Thais do, they really have some hot-looking babes around there…
…if you know how to determine the gender.

He’s right. Given the fact that in Thailand there are even some TV/TS beauty contests held on a regular basis, it’s a booby-trapped environment out there, unless you look closely at that hot chick passing you by in the streets of Bangkok… Wrong guess and it’s Muay Thai to the balls. Ouch.

Seriously, if we’re EVER allowed to mass produce these kind of games, we will be in total dominant.
December 6th, 2007 at 3:05 pm
lol kind of amusing to see the lips move but no sound come out. Is the game already released or are they going to put the voices in first?
December 6th, 2007 at 4:14 pm
I don’t think it has voice overs. But since I can’t read Thai, I can’t say for sure.

i’m not surprised at the news since most of your animes that you’re watching could have went there or other developing countries before reaching your tv, or in our case, computer.
furthermore, their drawing talent/s are already building up. All you need is a japanese instructor that can teach them the “Eroges for Dummies” stuffs..
Singapore? I guess another 20 years. i sense the current batch of 5 to 10 years old kiddies full of talents in drawing. By around 20 years, the pioneers should have retired and be at the side, coaching this upcoming talents

Singapore will never accept this type of stuff unless it sheds its old-age traditional thinking of study hard, work hard or else no face. Those are important, but in Singapore, it dominates your entire life.
It won’t be long before the younger generation rises up, then we can see what Singapore’s really capable of in the creative scene.

there are several problems I foresee about having moege in singapore:
1. MDA rolls over and dies.
2. Prude-y parents roll over and die.
3. Censors roll over and die.
To top it off, everyone gets castrated by pseudo-copyright companies(like you-know-who-but-not-voldermort), so that they can’t download their fap.

In the future all Bishoujo-Visual Novel fans will have to be multilingual experts because every country is going to offer its own VN games and probably in its native language.

The only thing I can really associate Thailand with is their lack of age restrictions for sex. Yes – it’s exactly what one might think, oy. Kids can be as promiscuous as adults there. Gross, oy.

Wow, I like the music from the first video. It’s nothing grand but it’s pretty cool. :)
