Nana Mizuki – Dancing in the velvet moon
Dancing in the velvet moon is one of the songs on Nana Mizuki’s new mini album STARCAMP EP, and it also happens to be the ED theme to Rosario + Vampire‘s unbearably fanservicy anime adaptation, which, I shall once again take the opportunity to remind everyone, is a travesty to the awesome page-turner that is the original manga.
Lyrics translation and more fanboying after the break.

Dancing in the velvet moon
Nana Mizuki
The silver flames engulf the sky.
Though my heart may be torn asunder,
I want to give myself only to you;
Please accept my true self that is this cross.
The unsleeping velvet moon
Adorns this secret room.
The two of us are alone. I quietly lock the door.
Let’s dance and lose ourselves in this playful moment.
Like a candle lit by a gentle flame,
I let my heart be softened by you.
Pledge me your eternity.
No one can break the chains of love.
Cast a sweet bewitching charm on me.
Only you can accept my primal instincts,
My forbidden melodies:
Now they too can soar free.
Hurry… Catch me.
In the night that has forgotten to end,
A fountain of stars lies trapped.
It is alone, silently as if praying,
For a dream that it doesn’t need to awake from.
Find me in the darkness that binds me.
Oh, this sweet scent is driving me crazy.
Please let it embrace me, right now.
The silver flames dance in the sky.
Even if they swallow up and erase everything,
I ask only for you to be here.
This throbbing heartbeat just won’t stop.
Our entwined souls
Will someday produce a miracle.
Is fate predetermined?
Even if it can’t be changed,
I can surely breathe new life into it.
No one can break the chains of love.
Cast a sweet bewitching charm on me.
Only you can accept my primal instincts,
My forbidden melodies:
Now they too can soar free.
Hurry… Catch me, I am here.
This song suits Moka really well. It’s so awesome. I hadn’t loved a Nana song this much since her 2002 single suddenly ~meguriaete~, which if you think about it is already more than half a decade old. Time passes fast. (Yeah I said it: I didn’t like those Nanoha songs! So there.)
According to houkoholic, who is the undisputed authority on seiyuu stalking appreciation, STARCAMP EP suffers from really terrible clipping. I didn’t really think it was a technical issue; I thought the clipping effect was what the producers were going for. I guess I’m just too used to overly-amplified synthesized music.
I should really find real stuff to blog about.
As usual, you can get the CD for this song from Amazon JP.

Thanks for the compli…. HEY I SAW WHAT YOU DID THERE!
Anyway, good job on the lyrics. Nana-chan always show in depth understanding of the anime/character she is writing the lyrics to, and her word plays is distinctively unique – probably something that is lost on the non-speakers.

Yeah, the word plays do make the lyrics a lot more meaningful. As a rule, I try to incorporate both the overt and implied meaning in my translations for situations where there’s kanji-swapping involved.

I’d agree that the anime butchered the manga, but the manga wasn’t exactly exceptionally good either.

The singing IMO, is rather bad, and it sounds too expressive and fake rather than natural. But the music is quite nice.
Nana Mizuki sounds rather “hentai” with her voice, if you get what I mean.
P.S Nice lyrics.

Cuteness overload with lots of CHOCOLATE <3
DM,I’m surprised that you actually like R+V considering how many cliches and flaws it has. Seeing you how rip gundam 00 apart every week I thought you would have pretty high standards for what you watch.

DM: That would be my t/ling rule for those cases too…
And houko’s just a really huge Mizuki fan in particular.

Thanks for recommending the manga over the anime. Whenever I watch the anime I just can’t stop laughing, but when reading the manga sometimes I have to stop tears . gosh.
