The Ghibli Museum is a wonderful place to relive your childhood if you are Japanese and born in the last 40 years or so. Otherwise, you are probably a gaijin tourist there to defile this pristine shrine dedicated to the magical world of Miyazaki and oversized creepy-looking cat-raccoon creature things, as I was.
Washinomiya Shrine (鷲宮神社) is the oldest shrine in the Kantou region of Japan. It also happens to be one of the setting locations for Kyoto Animation’s Lucky Star, the very shrine that Kagami and Tsukasa work part-time as shrine maidens. I paid a visit today and took some interesting pictures.
This is the real whale heaven I ate whale meat today. It tasted okay. Nothing special, really. It’s sort of like salmon sashimi when it’s raw, and sort of like beef when it’s cooked. Hayden Panettiere is crying now.
Kyoto is just about what I imagined it to be. The scenery is beautiful, the air is clear and the places of worship are numerous. The shop houses that line the streets around Kiyomizu Temple hint at a simpler past of mysticism and rituals, but find the time to slip in a tourist trap or [...]
Fukushima Station near the hostel I’m typing this in J-Hoppers Osaka. This is my second day in Japan, but most of yesterday was spent travelling. I arrived at Narita International Airport yesterday afternoon with a group of friends, wasted the evening away wandering around Tokyo JR Station and took an overnight bus to Kansai.
Over. Singapore’s first anime convention is. It’s been an eventful two days and I’m quite happy with the way it ended. Now we can start looking forward to next year. Also, I just woke up and my head hurts.
I attended the press preview for Anime Festival Asia 08 today. The actual event starts tomorrow at 9am. The preview itself consisted of a short tour around the booths that were being set up and a press conference to introduce the invited guests. Note: This post is backdated because it took longer than expected to [...]
I am helping AFA08 compile a list of questions from fans in Singapore (and other English-speaking countries) to send to May’n. She has gracefully agreed to answer them through email correspondence. I will be sending the questions in both English and Japanese and the event organizers will help to edit and forward them to May’n. [...]
AFA08 pre-registration is now up. Only the $8 two-day ticket is available for pre-registration. Details on the special VIP seating for Mei’s concert (tier pricing and sales location) will be released early next week. Head to the official ticketing site more for information.
Yes, this is NOT a joke. May’n (May Nakabayashi), the beautiful voice behind Sheryl’s songs in Macross Frontier, will be making her way down to this tiny-red-dot island to perform live at the inaugural Anime Festival Asia, previously introduced on my blog, to be held on the 22nd and 23rd of November 2008. This will [...]
Hi guys. This is a competition for Singaporean artists (or those who think they are artists anyway), so if you are one of the 6 billion people who don’t live on this tiny island, then stop reading and go watch Macross Frontier 23. As part of the previously-mentioned AFA08, NUS Comics Animation Society is organizing [...]
Not my favourite episode. I think the character dynamics is somewhat lacking this time, and the battle scene wasn’t all that exciting either. I think it’s about time Sunrise winds down the series a notch before it runs out of momentum, and start laying the groundwork for a grander set-up. This week’s raw was slightly [...]
