Second: I’ve just recently considered concentrating on studying Japanese after having read all your posts about some fansubbers. I also remembered reading this sometime ago so I was wondering if you could recommend some references that would be good for studying the language on my own? Though I do realize a complete self-study might not produce exactly the best results, it’s the only thing I can work with my schedule at the moment.

In actuality, I have studied it formally for around 3 months. But I don’t think I can even pass JLPT 4 since I don’t have much to say for my reading ability D: I used Japanese for busy people volume back and have finished that cover to cover. I bought minna no nihonggo just recently and am worried that it might be too difficult.

Anyway I’m sorry to suddenly jump you on this but you were the first person I thought of when I wanted to pursue this. I really love reading your blog. So I’d be really grateful for a reply.

heard the japanese ministry of education’s going to start a new branch of japanese examinations since the JLPT system’s not open ended enough or something though … :/

can always go take the japanese speech fluency test (required for announcers and people speaking on tv/radio) if you want to challenge still :D

Those results make me so jealous. =) My biggest problem with Japanese is that I’m too lazy. Grammar isn’t too much of a biggie anymore and I can read books, but vocabulary, it takes so much effort. I wish there was a way to input kanji and it’s various pronunciations and okurigana into my brain by feeding in a list. ORZ

BTW, I was also previously at Ikoma with Abo sensei. Never took the JLPT prep classes though. Passed JLPT2 in the 2005 exams self-studying the grammar but I’ve been procrastinating about taking up the JLPT1 ever since.

So read more.

Level 2 and level 1 aren’t that different I guess. Kanji is probably the biggest difference.

congrats on doing so well!

my teacher is Abo sensei too and i’m taking jlpt 1 prep classes at ikoma now.

i took jlpt 2 last year, and i got

vocab – 97/100
listening – 70/100
grammar – 138/200

my grammar is really quite bad… so i was wondering if you have any tips about improving that section!

is the gap between level 2 and 1 really big?
what are the chances of me passing jlpt 1 this year?
