The first episode of the new Mai-Otome OVA series is pretty darn good. Sunrise has got this whole drama-comedy hybrid formula perfected.

Animation is OVA quality and significantly better. Soundtrack seems to be the same, except for the new theme song. (Crap BTW.) The episode starts with the Meister Otomes gathering in space to destroy an incoming asteroid and ends off with a mysterious attack on the academy by an unknown invader. In between, we have neko ramen, teenage quarrels, Shizuru in swimsuit, and a taiyaki thrown in for good measure.
