The results for the 2006 Japanese Language Proficiency Test are out. It’s official: NO MORE JLPT FOR DM EVER AGAIN! YAY! I passed JLPT level 1! WOOHOO! I am now officially qualified to look down on lousy fansubbers and stir up intarweb doramas.
I scored 335/400 overall with the breakdown as follows:
Vocabulary: 69/100
Listening: 90/100
Reading & Grammar: 176/200
I was 8 points short of my goal of 343. For the record, I scored 381 for JLPT 3 in 2004 and 362 for JLPT 2 in 2005. I did quite badly for the vocabulary section. I guess this is what I get for being too lazy to memorize kanji.
So, how did everyone else do?
Congrats DM!
What is the JPLT like exactly? I’m going to major in Japanese so I’ll take them. Any hints or tips?
Congratulations dude! I’m impressed with your reading and grammar score (it should be 176/200 though).
I took the level 1 test too, but I didn’t pass. T_T Oh, well, I’m sure I’ll pass this year because I’ve actually started studying.
Wow you’re so amazing, you got 176/100. 76 more than the maximum mark! No wonder you’re the premier anime blogger in Singapore. LOL.
Congrats, now all you have to do next is move to Japan, lol.
Haxor.
*hoots* congrats!
Time to start your own fansub group
Congrats!
åˆæ ¼ãŠã‚ã§ã¨ã†ã”ã–ã„ã¾ã™ï¼
celebrate by translating all the eroges you have played before for us….
Thanks everyone.
Koji Oe: It’s completely multiple choice and is very bias towards comprehension ability as opposed to application ability. Speaking is not tested at all and I suck at speaking so it’s just as well.
Congrats. Now you’re qualified to be Japanese. Next I hope to see you get Japanese scholarship.
Congrats DM. Question, must you pay to be able to take the test?
Man, how long did it take to get a score that good?
blah, I still haven’t gotten mine back. Of course, I only took level 3 since I didn’t want to bother studying for anything this year, so I’m not terribly worried about my results…
elohir: Yes.
yar0nix: 4 years.
4 years hohoho my god. Thats hardcore.
Congratulation DM ~
;)
Nicely done! It must have taken a lot of effort to get that good with everything you needed to pass. Congrats!
DM: Help the Clannad translation project out :V
congrat!
I have a quesiton, do you have to pass all the JPCL levels ? I mean can I do level 3 without doing level 4 ?
Why thou…
Ah, whatever, gratz.
You’re now officially 49% nihonjin.
Gratz on being one of the 83 in Singapore to pass JLPT 1 in 2006.
I passed too.
I got 303/400.
Vocabulary: 72/100
Listening: 80/100
Reading & Grammar: 151/200
OMG I beat you in Vocab!
Anyway plenty of thanks to Abo-sensei.
WTF I haven’t even take level 4 yet XD
dm, may i know where you take your japanese classes?
have been making up my mind to go, but i cant find any decent recommendations…
JL: You can take whichever level you want, but you can only take one paper every year.
booyakasha: ZOMG. Were you in my class?
hitoshura: Ikoma Language Centre at Shaw House.
Congrats DM!
I would love to have scores like yours lol
But I barely passed JLPT Level 3, though I haven’t seen yet the breakdown of my scores ^_^;
I think I won’t be taking Level 2 this year, and I don’t know if I will still have the enthusiasm to take it to Level 1 in the years to come. So I won’t ever be ‘officially qualified to look down on lousy fansubbers and stir up intarweb doramas.’ Darn.
Congratulations. Now I really have to start taking JLPT seriously.
**hint hint: Do summore Japanese-language information posts..**
yay, 386 on level 3 without studying! now that I actually have a feel for the test, I guess I should get crackin’ on my kanji so I’ll be able to pass level 2 next time around…
awesome man DM
Gratz DM. I think I will take Japanese classes after my O lvls this year.
Tj han:DM’s score is 176/200. Either DM has edited his post or you have to test your eyesight =P
I’m thinking of taking up lessons at the Inoue School of Language at Arts at Singgapore Shopping centre, near my workplace. Do you know anything about it?
And lucky you. Not for passing the JLPT exams, but for being able to learn it since sec 1. To think I’m only going to take it as a serious subject the moment I go to JC…
hi all
i got 390 in my level 3 this year..Is this the top score this year in level 3?
planning to take up level 2 this year..any good books/audio files available in the net.??
よã‚ã—ããŠé¡˜ã„ã—ã¾ã™
are you one of those 2 j1s that pass? i heard that one of them is insane and claims to want to be the prime minister of japan. is that you?
DarkMirage,
I am not amused at you taking a pot shot at Doremi Fansubs once again. Do we have to go over this again? It’s nice to know that you scored high on your Japanese Language tests, but that doesn’t not give you the right to go mocking us. We all have different methods of getting things done, which brings me to this; we are humans and we make mistakes.
End of point.

Doremi Fansubs
I am amused.

DarkMirage,
First of all, congrats on your test score. (I am just starting to learn the written form of Japanese, but haven’t yet finished learning Hiragana and Katakana, let alone the sixty or so grade one level Kanji.)
Why is it that you insist upon knocking fansubbers? While it is true that there are some poor groups out there, I feel Doremi is undeserving of your mistreatment. Specifically, I strongly take issue with your *continuing* tirade against Doremi for an error made in December 2005 and corrected long ago — let it drop already! Fansub groups are not immune to making mistakes, we all make them.
Fansub groups do not have the benefit of using the animation studio’s seyuu scripts: The groups must depend upon someone literally taking dictation from the program. In some places, the dialogue is very hard to hear amongst the other sound effects.
PS your flag icon assignment in message 39 was incorrect. Both my ISP, “vcn.bc.ca”, and myself are located in Vancouver British Columbia, Canada, not the USA. (The top-level domain ‘.CA’ is unique to Canada.)
You do have the Canadian flag there, because you correctly identify Mike_Art03A’s location as being Canada in message 36.
(The war of 1812 was fought over the USA trying to annex part of Canada)
lol, congrate on ur JLPT lvl 1. Seems that last yr while u were taking lvl 1, I was in the same compound taking lvl 4. Wonder did i actually see u at that jap school :D
IMO DM must be a very smart individual both in IT anime and nihongo
to get such high marks for LISTENING test… i believe it has been a result of watching RAW animes/dorama?
all the best for your japanese exams every day in use of communication no longer in a classroom situation :)
and my results for JLPT4 i got 303 didnt study hard enuff i guess…
is studying a pain?
how to cultivate a love for study?
Omedetto DM!
I should take Jlpt level 2 next year if I continue to study
ãŠã‚ã§ã¨ï¼ï¼
Cool .. learning it since sec 1, i only started 2 yrs ago, passed JLPT 3 on my first yr, guess i’m lucky hehe.
I miss JLPT 2 test last yr :( , due to my new job..
but guess its worth it .. get to go JAPAN instead^.^
hi, sorry i didn’t see this post before and commented on last year’s jlpt post.
congrats on doing so well!
my teacher is Abo sensei too and i’m taking jlpt 1 prep classes at ikoma now.
i took jlpt 2 last year, and i got
vocab – 97/100
listening – 70/100
grammar – 138/200
my grammar is really quite bad… so i was wondering if you have any tips about improving that section!
is the gap between level 2 and 1 really big?
what are the chances of me passing jlpt 1 this year?
thanks!
Grammar at lvl 2 and lvl 1 is actually more of a matter of vocabulary. So read more.
Level 2 and level 1 aren’t that different I guess. Kanji is probably the biggest difference.
ok thanks!
Congratulations! Those results make me so jealous. =) My biggest problem with Japanese is that I’m too lazy. Grammar isn’t too much of a biggie anymore and I can read books, but vocabulary, it takes so much effort. I wish there was a way to input kanji and it’s various pronunciations and okurigana into my brain by feeding in a list. ORZ
BTW, I was also previously at Ikoma with Abo sensei. Never took the JLPT prep classes though. Passed JLPT2 in the 2005 exams self-studying the grammar but I’ve been procrastinating about taking up the JLPT1 ever since.
welcome to the jlpt1 family :D
heard the japanese ministry of education’s going to start a new branch of japanese examinations since the JLPT system’s not open ended enough or something though … :/
can always go take the japanese speech fluency test (required for announcers and people speaking on tv/radio) if you want to challenge still :D
P.S.: I got the same mark as you for vocab (2006) too! D: Add me on msn so we can talk again lolz :D
Actually… You already are on my MSN list.
