Not a particularly exciting episode, but Marianne finally makes an appearance, sort of. I can’t imagine how this is all going to end. For one thing, I don’t see any role for Kallen in the grand finale that’s being played out between the old man, the ambitious elder brother, and that good-for-nothing son who likes to play dress-up. :(
Summary
Suzaku is fashionably late in finally losing his cool and deciding to wipe out all Geass by force, considering the fact that Cornelia and Lelouch already went through this phase many aeon/episodes ago.
Schneizel reveals his hand without much fanfare and casually launches a coup d’etat over a spot of tea in the recreation room. “About that time eh chaps?” “…Righto.” I wonder how much he actually knows about this whole Geass business, like the fact that his father is immortal and is kind of hard to assassinate.
The old man is busy playing with his toys, which just happen to be million-year-old ruins that might just wipe out humanity through a Third Impact that makes us lose our precious AT Fields. I mean Ragnarok or whatever. I still have no idea what that this whole show is about, other than Kallen.
Lelouch is acting all bad-ass for now and frankly he should be invincible now that he has apparently lost everything that was once precious to him. He is like Batman, whose girlfriend died and who now has nothing important to him that can be taken hostage by his enemies, except maybe good old Alfred. But of course that’s what Lelouch (and Bruce Wayne) thinks. C.C. and Kallen are on their way! (And Batman is totally going to fall in love with a new girl in the next movie.)
Anyway Lelouch and the old geezer are going to spend the rest of eternity together. How gay.
Thoughts
Lelouch finally realizes something that he has overlooked all this time: instead of wasting his one-use Geass on a single order, he can simply order the person to obey him forever! (Plot hole alert.)
And now that the mysterious Marianne has revealed her personality to be that of a high school girl on steroids, the illusion of dignified royal grace and beauty has been shattered and the image of the Britannia lineage suffers another mortal wound. Lelouch’s whole family is fricking insane, which makes one wonder what dark shameful secrets Euphie bore.
After being showered with attention and glory to a level normally reserved for the main characters, and subsequently thrown aside with little afterthoughts by the cruel whims of the Power That Be (i.e. the producers), Xingke looks like he may yet play some mildly important role in the final encounter. Yeah, he probably gets to kite the annoying little spawns while the real hero tanks the last boss.
Screencaps
Recently I started reading Hatsukoi Limited by Mizuki Kawashita, the author of Ichigo 100%. It’s really awesome, but it’s also surprisingly short at only 4 volumes, compared to Ichigo’s 19. I’m having Tsukasa nostalgia.
It’s Episode 20, yo.
Episode 19, again? ;)
Yeah, episode 20 :D
They really had to rush the ending of this series, it seems…
Marianne is CRAZY. “Hey C.C, what do you think, should we go help my son?” WTF.
edit: Although it actually is pretty refreshing for her to have such a strange character, especially since she’s been portrayed as a some sort of martyr or innocent victim for 40 episodes.
Don’t worry, DM, if the Korean spoilers are completely accurate, Lelouch gets to seduce (or rather, sweet talk?) Kallen into joining him. Unless that already happened in the last episode.
Yeah, seriously, the whole special space shrine thingy seems to digg too much from EVA.
WTH! You got the wrong episode there. LOL! Crazy review there though got me rofl! haha
Anya!!!! OMG!!! @_@
And yes Lelouch is like Batman from “The Dark Knight” now..
uhh isnt this ep 20?
Not to be overly critical but we’re up to episode 20 now.
Other than that it’s another review I enjoyed. I’m also waiting for another Star Wars moment in which Anya says to Lelouch “I am your mother.”
nice review dark mirage. as always, funny and entertaining ;-)
I just can’t see where the show is going anymore. Just like that premature confrontation between Lelouch and Charles before, this one needs a major set-back so that there can be a real end further on. And why not just shut Charles away for good on his own? Why make it a prison of mental torture for yourself (even though Lelouch have some things to talk to his father about, spending an eternity with the old man is a bit excessive).
The revealing of Marianne as being a loli makes little sense to me. What were those memory losses hinted at before about? (not Charles doing apparently). C.C. getting her memories back was also way too easy. In a mere moment she gets her wits together and it’s like nothing happened in the first place (and I had some real hope for it being Lelouch bringing her back to her own self (like she did to him at the beginning of the season T_T)…
Oh well, I still enjoyed the ep, mostly because Lelouch kicks ass and Suzaku has turned to the dark side.
Couldn’t have said it better! >_> lol Great review as always DM! ^^
Nice :)
Woot. First comment. I would like to point out that theres a major typo in the title. It’s Episode 20 FYI. :) It was quite a decent episode. Seriously its hard enough to predict hows its going to end.
Lelouch finally realizes something that he has overlooked all this time: instead of wasting his one-use Geass on a single order, he can simply order the person to obey him forever! (Plot hole alert.)
It isn’t a plot hole. It is just that Lelouch has abandoned his morals like someone has said in another website but i am putting it here. Quite like a follow up from a previous episode whereby Lelouch thought of geassing everyone including xingke, but shirley intervenes and said love is power. It did stop him from geassing everyone then.
it’s ep 20 DM, not 19 again
Btw this was episode 20, but another hilarious and great review by DM.
An awesome review like always.
But it’s episode 20, not 19.
Don’t you mean 20? lawl
/edited
Lol, Lulu’s penguin army. He had to replace Tamaki’s janitorial spot somehow…
That whole Anya/Marianne thing is kind of confusing. Basically, is it Marianne’s personality in Anya’s body?
Should be episode 20 no?
i could have sworn this was episode 20. OH WAIT IT IS EPISODE 20
Title is suppose to be Episode 20
lol I guess you get the title number wrong since you’ve blogged episode 19 twice…:D
Despite the low quality animation and others said about this episode, I still think it is enjoyable…
@dan: That actually makes some sense, at least more than Marianne having a body transplant. Anya has the red eyes as well, looking like she is under a geass (Marianne’s presumably). So is Marianne incorporeal??? C.C. used to have these talks to herself in the past as well, clearly with someone…
I lolled when Marianne/Anya told C.C. to get going and C.C. went “wait a sec”…just to go fetch her Cheesekun apparently (seen in the screen shot). Always remember the important stuff ey…
Yeah, I thought that he was going to do that when he used the Gafjun Disturber on Lancelot and invited Suzaku out for a talk while watching season 1.
What I think is that this amazing phenomenon is related to Marianne’s Geass. Probably her Geass allows her mental to enter someone else’s mind while her physical is dead. Anya’s eyes changed to the under-Geass-effect eyes when Marianne’s personality emerged.
Title is suppose to say ‘Episode 20’.
Isn’t this supposed to be episode 20? O.o
anyway, I was expecting Anya to havea huge role but I never expected her to be Marianne!
I guess the MILF wants to be a loli lol
I love this episode for some reason. The whole production is rushed, granted, but I still liked it.
Anya being Marianne…if anything I will like to know what kind of Geass she has. The Geass all got to do with the mind, after all. It makes her have twice her life span though. Pretty cool.
Well, Schneizel doing a coup to be Emperor was a long time in the making, but why has it taken so long? It could have been much more if the Charles have a ‘Marked of Geass’ side to totally pwn Schneizel’s ass before they get hit in the face by Lelouch.
And if the story turns out into a ‘Reset the game’ ending, I will predict Code Geass X as an alternate universe. And it goes on and on and on.
Hey guys, has anyone pointed out it’s episode 20 yet? cos I think he got it after the first two people posted stating that.
Just a thought.
Good episode, confused as to whether or not C.C. is immortal or not anymore, s’about all I have to say atm.
Thank you!
Am I watching the wrong show? I could have sworn this was End of Evangelion, not Code Geass 20.
lololcwutididthar>_>
“He’s his father”
I lol’d, does no one else get this reference?
That shot showing only Lelouch’s eyes and forehead looks like a rip from Gundam SEED Destiny when Shinn just laid Stellar to rest.
“Anyway Lelouch and the old geezer are going to spend the rest of eternity together. How gay.”
indeed
Wow, the sheer amount of LOLWTF material in this episode made my brain rot so I had to transfer my mind into Cheese-kun’s body through the World of C(rap) while the repairs are done by penguins. Are the glowing eyes so cool since Naruto that they make you forget about every dumb shot in this show ? Ouch, my brain…
@ orange: ???
Well, it’s not a plot hole that Lelouch hasn’t ordered them to obey his every command since he needed the past people to act normal while he does his own thing. But now, he’s a dead man and he couldn’t care less about anything and Tsukasa is awesome :(. Hatsukoi was too short, I felt it was a bit rushed. I want an Ichigo 100% continuation :(.
ROFL! That comment cracked me up like DM! Yup, that’s pretty much what this ep is about. Entertainment, folks, that’s what Code Geass is about…
looking at the title of the last ep i bet code geass is going to have a really sucky ending.
i mean depressing ending sry
Oh yeah, lelouch kicks everyones ass when he has nothing left, but I guess he sucks when he controls half the world. Thats an odd plot twist. Hello dad, I locked us in this temporal space thingy for the rest of time! are you proud of me? And thank god, He finally used the “I wish for a thousand wishes” deal. His morals were seriously holding back his talents, he only captured half of the world. Sometimes you just gotta abandon them.
That shot of Bismark and Suzaku does make Bismark’s sword look like a crappy lightsaber and does anyone else think that having “15+”ish people telling DM that he messed up on the article title is kind of excessive? Honestly, you would think that you would only need 3 people to tell you that. That’s not an insult aimed at DM. I’m just saying that you don’t need to spam “This isn’t episoder 19” over and over.
hey, its episode 20
j/k
but seriously, I didn’t even NOTICE the bad animation quality, this episode had so much OMGWTFBBQ that I don’t even care
grats to the writers for throwing something completely unexpected despite tens of theories (Anya BEING Marianne…sorta)
oshit my gravatar works! woot
Wow Anya is Lelouch’s mom, never expected that
and how the hell did Suzaku change his mind in a second about betraying the Emperor??? I hope people don’t start to change sides every second like in Seed Destiny(crap)
oh and OMGWTFBBQ me too!!!!
[blockquote]Lelouch finally realizes something that he has overlooked all this time: instead of wasting his one-use Geass on a single order, he can simply order the person to obey him forever! (Plot hole alert.)[/blockquote]
Maybe before this his Geass wasn’t powerful enough to give such a command. I remember somewhere that the stronger his Geass gets, the longer those “vague” commands last.
At least things aren’t falling apart at nearly the same rate as the Mai * series.
And thanks for the heads-up on Kawashita’s new work… although the girl on the cover seems a bit too much like Tsukkie to be a new series.
Those pillars of shit can destroy the gods…wow. Who would have guessed THAT would be their weakness?
Well, Yeha I agree, this series ain’t gonna have a happy ending where Lelouch lives. At very least, Lelouch dies and everybody lives happily ever after, then Lelouch is heavily hinted to be alive or something lame like that.
I <3 Ichigo 100% XD.
so marianne’s geass is to haunt someone like a ghost? thats almost like immortal :P
Marianne=Anya is so totally Voldemort’s last Horcrux. Goodbye, deredere C.C, it was fun watching while you lasted. And are we EVER going to know what C.C’s real name is?
Yes, Hatsukoi is disappointingly short… Still, Misaki is so totally wubs
Here we go. They started to rush to end this.
