What a sweet episode. Things seldom go so smoothly in a Gundam storyline full of misunderstandings and betrayals, at least not till the grand finale. Then again, this may just be a setup for the next emotional free fall. As one learns from experience, it’s never a good idea to invest your feelings and expectations in a fictional character. Well, except for the ones I love. They would never betray my feelings.
Summary and Thoughts
Allelujah and Soma get hitched in this episode. That’s about all you need to know about it. Oh the new insert song “Unlimited Sky” by Tommy heavenly6 is pretty good, although I strongly suggest they change their band name.
Parallels can be drawn between this episode and various other memorable ones in Gundam history, such as when Aina and Shiro crashed into a deserted snowy mountain or when Cagalli and Athrun crashed onto a deserted island. It is a timeless plot technique used to bring former enemies together in a night of awkward passion that ends in a reluctant farewell.
But instead of returning with Sergei, Soma/Marie chooses to stay with Allelujah, thus breaking with tradition and setting off into uncharted waters. This is rather surprising, since (assuming that Celestial Being doesn’t let her pilot Gundams too) it effectively transforms her role as the tragic heroine who might have unknowingly killed her childhood sweetheart (ala Louise) into a damsel in distress who waits at home for her hero’s return (ala Marina). And we are only at episode 7.
I suppose the far more likely scenario is that after she spends a few episodes of quality time with Allelujah, an event of cataclysmic proportion puts the entire world in danger and she is either compelled to rejoin the Federation out of her loyalty and once again be forced to face Allelujah on the battlefield, or she somehow convinces Celestial Being to let her pilot a Gundam, in which case she will probably be forced to face Sergei.
Or maybe she just gets knocked up and stays at home for the rest of the series. Who would’ve thought that Allelujah would be the first one to get some tail. Setsuna is such a disappointing lead.
Anyway this episode really goes to show that Gundam 00 is about as subtle as Homer J. Simpson. The main characters just love to explicitly spell out their motivations and inner thoughts to the audience.
Screencaps
My exams are almost over! I have one short paper left. Woohoo! Also, I started playing World of Warcraft again.
The best scene was how surprise the crew was when they said that Allelujah got a girlfriend. Too bad, you loose Sumeragi.
And yes Setsuna’s been such a disappointing lead. Now that Marina is no longer a princess now is the chance to strike
no way that woman in the preview is tieria/regene, because look at her shoulders! I mean unless regene and tieria are able to morph their form, as in shoulders, hips, build etc (adding breasts does NOT immediately make you look like a woman), its someone else. Probably a female form of them? Since Regene and Tieria have the same DNA…
lol maybe Tieria has the same ability as his gundam… xD
(excuse for this comment: its almost 3 am… xD )
i thought that it was tieria who was with louise in an elevator from the very end of season 1..he just changed his hair or something.
billybobbaxter: Yes you are right that wasn’t the only thing that was wrong with seed/seed destiny. Although IMO it was one of the biggest. But they did alot wrong in those series. I think my point at the time was that if they keep up with what they are doing now they will ruin the series. However I never said it was over, far from it actually. I watch anime all the time and know full well just how much can happen in even a single episode so I know that they have far more than enough time to turn it around.
I must say that last picture of the female Tieria lookalike is still pretty creepy.
I must agree with Billybobbaxter. This episode is positive and the preview looks promising. Although Gundam Seed (not including Destiny) will always be better when it comes to character development, plot development and science/technology. Plus it gave much fanservice too!
Being animated in HD, Gundam 00 should be superior when it comes to animation quality. However, we’ve seen instances where the animators in Gundam 00 got lazy and gave us mediocre artwork and action.
That’s true. Although SEED did use a LOT of repeated footage in combat. I’m not saying it’s bad though. I really do prefer SEED to 00 simply because a lot of SEED had to do with the pilot’s abilities combined with the of the Gundam as apposed to just the Gundam itself cuz, well, honestly, Setsuna would get royally owned by Kira no questions asked.
“Also, I started playing World of Warcraft again.”
oh, so you wanna fail at the last moment xD
Anyway, …NOOOOOOOOOOOOO, Harry Potter does NOT die!!! NOOO, I will not accept this! Couldn’t you have said this AFTER all the movies were made!? Bastard, I hate you… I’m gonna cry in a corner now ;_;
NOW I think DarkMirage would be censored by millions of Harry Potter (movie-only, illiterate) fans…
If DarkMirage was Kataron, and Tsunande(OvA) was Union, all the others AEU and the box office itself would tear out darkmirage’s SQL server, AEU tear out his computer, and Jinkakuren/HRL (hard-core movie fans), would impale him and use his intestines to make pig intestine soup……………XD
On a sidenote, if Graham Aker was Scholastic the company(tm), I think it would be a battle of SQL server vs. SVMS-01 Merchant Union of the Employees of Scholatics…..(The company would not see the fat USD 500 million profit…), resulting in paycuts, firing and strikes and protest…
That episode was so romantic i was crying. i thought that when they meet each other that soma would attack him but it truned out to be marie and that was just aswome that they got to talk and that col.smernoff said that she could stay with him if thats what she wanted and that was so romantic.
