I’m now lying in my bunk bed at K’s House Tokyo in Asakusa. We just reached Tokyo this morning after an overnight transit flight via Bangkok.
After leaving our luggage at the hostel, the group of us proceeded to take a long walk (longer than it should be due to various detours) to Akihabara. Pictures after the break.
Photos are in chronological order. (More or less.)

Bandai’s headquarters used to be in Asakusa and they still maintain a presence here in the form of two office buildings. We happened to pass by them during our after-dinner stoll. May drop by again later during office hours to look at their showcases.
As for the title of this post: we lost our way for 15 minutes or so during our little night stroll. It was an interesting experience…
Heading to Tsukiji fish market in the morning tomorrow.
Sakura and fallen leaves..? Man, I guess global warming is at work here.. (^_^)a
Tsukiji’s pretty crazy, dozens of little personal motor carts (forget what they’re called) driving anywhere and everywhere with frozen styrofoam containers. Also pretty cool, some of those fish are gigantic!
now the only thing missing was. where is the food??!!
Gawd, I’m officially jealous already.
me wants to go japan….
Jealous? I’m reeling…
Me wan go japan too
I LOLed at the Nice boat…reminds me of school days -_-
How’s the weather like? O: And you managed to get beds in K’s House? It was fully booked in April (it seems to always be more of less full) so it should be rather up there in terms of backpackers hostels…
Oh Tsukiji fish market is fun! If you’ve got a bit of cash on you, you should try one of the sets over at 大和 (shop front as seen here http://homepage3.nifty.com/tokyoworks/TsukijiTour/102206-w300.jpg). It’s around 3500yen for the best set but it’s worth every cent. Plus, the give you hot tea when you’re waiting in line in the cold. LOL
Looking forward to more photos!!:D
If you happen to get to watch Kara no Kyoukai, mind writing a post about it?
I gotta be there before I go NS!!
Damn financial problems!
omgg i wanna go there. enjoy your stay there DM!
*Sends Envy from FMA after DM*
Everyone wants to go Japan, including me. lol
Which hotel are you staying at?
I tend to stay at Hotel Edoya, in Akihabara. It is just a short walk to all the great stores. It is a sort of business hotel, across the street from a love hotel.
I used to stay in a cheaper hotel in Minowa (Hotel New Koyo), but it was a pain having to carry so many shopping backs back and forth via the train. But, it was really cheap. But I found I just bought so much that the hotel room did not have enough space.
Now, I just hit some stores, walk back to the Hotel Edoya, and walk back to the stores again. BTW, Hotel Edoya serves a free traditional all-you-can-eat breakfast each morning to those staying overnight. Pretty nice if you like rice, raw egg, sweet egg omelette, fish, sausages, etc.
Anyways, happy shopping!!!!!
Oh i really want to go to Japan, even more after seeing those photos.
K’s House Tokyo is very good. It’s 3000 yen per night per person for a four-bunk room and it has Internet access. XD The only problem is that the nearest train station is a private line and not the Yamanote line. Asakusa station is a bit farther off.
Hmm 3000 yen, 500 yen cheaper than the one I’m currently lodging in, Tokyo Hostel in Minowa, just north of Ueno. Not too bad also but it’s also using the metro line, thus we take the 2.4+km walk to JR Ueno to save cost. I’m actually about 20-30mins walk away from your place!!! Heading to Shinjuku/Akihabara today, maybe will see you @ Comiket this coming Sat. (I’m sure Singaporeans are easy to spot lol.)
Why are the kitties not in a mikan box?? My image of Japan is forever shattered!!
Nice photos; looks like you’re having a good time! :)
By the way, how is K’s House? I’ve never stayed at one of their establishments, but I know they’re very popular with foreigners.
P.S. – Bleh, DM your site has been dying on me all me day. Tried to post a comment hours ago, but only just now managed to get past all the timeout errors. xP
P.P.S. – I’m doing science and I’m still alive.

Be sure to take more pics for those of us who can’t go =P
What?! No pictures of hot girls in santa suits? FAIL!
Is it true that you all went to Soapland?
That transformer display looks absolutely smashing.
LOL @ TokiKake Konata
Those are some … humanless pics. Are you going for the “I Am Legend” look? Still they are entertaining, thank you for sharing. Have you gone to the “Cross Field” building? Nice foods and the Tokyo Anime Center is there, perfect for your non-anime friends. Yeah, right.
@Junko Tamiya: That hotel is still kinda far and a tad expensive. I usually use Hotel Juraku (http://www.juraku.com/ocha/) which is nestled in between JR Ochanomizu and JR Akihabara. Just a 3 minute walk to Gamers, JR Akiba, Trader, Denny’s (!) etc, its really good for your plans of dropping off goods. ;-) Internet service is spotty IIRC, though. And it doesn’t approach the 3000 yen price of these hostels. :-(

Animate is … orenji??
(It’s clear now, it’s been far too long since I’ve last been to Akiba T___T )
Hey DM, are you going on a packaged tour? Or promo? Or do you just have inexhaustible pocket money lol. I was wondering because I wanna visit Japan again someday, but I’m hesitant it might be out of my budget. And then there’s the visa thingy tsk tsk tsk.
Anyway, I seemed to have missed that robot in Yodobashi Camera. And I miss Animate T_T
OMG kojikan 1:1 Rin Kokonoe
awwwwwwww i reali miss japan, its the best on sundays, yoyogi parks cool with all the bands playing………. I WANT TO GO BACK !!!! :(
