Comiket 70 day one has ended just a few hours ago. Since Shingo from HD has yet to post his report, here’s a little something for those of you out there with nothing else better to do than to wait (like me)… It’s a bunch of screencaps taken from a TV program covering the 70th Comic Market.
Top right corner: 410,000 people over 3 days!? The massive gathering at this summer event.
Left: This person in the queue…
Bottom: …has been queuing since 5 am.
Same as above.
Top right: A hot summer of “Comiket”. A gathering of 410,000 people from all over the nation.
Left: An attendee.
Bottom: “What is does Comic Market mean to you?” “It’s what I live for.”
And the most WTF of them all…
Bottom: A mother taking leave from work to buy things for her daughter who is having tuition.
Wow. Japanese mothers are so cool that they take leaves to buy yaoi pr0n for their daughters. o_O Either that or she’s actually buying it for herself… DUN DUN DUN!!! I think one can write a few thousand words worth of social commentary base on this picture alone. Seriously. Only in Japan folks.
And for those of you who are wondering why they don’t queue overnight, well I can assure you that it’s not because they are not hardcore enough; it’s against the rules to do so. Comiket bouncers are kowai… I’d imagine.
Now back to refreshing Heisei Democracy…
That mother could have been buying shota.
I’d like to see what a Comiket bouncer looks like though.
Actually, most of the graphic shota is sold on day 3. Maybe that says something about its core consumers? … o_O
They probably look like powered up otakus with yazuka suits.
O_O
Comiket is like a big party.
I gotta be there someday.
“Bottom: A mother taking leave from work to buy things for her daughter who is having tuition.”
Hahaha, maybe that’s the Japanese version of my mother? ;P
w0w~ wish my mum was like yours.
You serious? That’s a woman? Goodness gracious.
It’s not far fetched that moms would do stuff for their kids. But yeah, this is not day 3, so nothing to worry about.
/agree with Os
And why are they only showing girls? And hot ones. Not that I’m complaining, not by a long stretch, but methinks that’s either totally mis-representative of the actually attendee demographic, or I have been horribly lied to about Japan and the female otaku population.
God praise Japanese moms.
Saw this clip in YouTube this morning. From what I understand, this mom got lost in comiket, ended up going to the information booth. They showed the goods that she bought, I couldn’t make a sense out of things that she said though… but probably along the line of “that’s fine! my daughter reads yaoi!”
Ember, I think it’s more of the latter…
BTW the video can be seen here.
And for those who watched the video and are wondering what the mother bought: booth “æ±A 54a” is Yun Kouga. Her website is here. She is the mangaka for Loveless. Her C70 releases are on this page.
So yeah… yaoi.
