Rei's Child Two

"Kaworu, where are you?!" a voice yells, echoing in the air from a woman in a small structure on the surface of Tokyo-3.

Out of her sight, a small boy stands in the street, looking up into the sky as dark billowing clouds begin to close in from the south. The small boy appears to have a particular interest in these abnormal clouds as they block out the sun high above. Almost as if they are telling him something, he stares at them with vacant, shimmering eyes.

"Kaworu, get in here now! We need to take cover!"

But the calls fall upon deaf ears as the boy remains motionless and incoherent, even as a strong gust of wind blows by him. Around him, trees lose their leaves and branches as the wind grows stronger, yet the child is unaffected as if nailed to the ground, not even flinching as twigs hit him before disappearing in a flash of light.

"Kaworu, we need to get inside NOW!! A storm is coming!"

The little boy blinks once as if awakening from a dream before finally moving from his spot after taking one last, lingering look at the storm clouds, "The Second has awoken..." he whispers to himself.

Down in the Geofront, located in the University, two people have received word on the condition of a friend they had lost contact with a few days prior, named Maya.

"Commander, the ETA of the transport vehicle is any moment now, they are transferring by ground units due to the weather above." reports Fuyutsuki in his office, "I will need you to debrief her while I continue the research on the Second Angel and how we can stop it. The new MAGI techs are working around the clock to restore the MAGI to full capacity. As soon as Maya gets back I plan on asking for her assistance in tracking down both Makoto and Shigeru from their current jobs. I was hoping I would never have to do this to anyone after what had occurred years ago but at the moment we have no choice."

"I understand, Sir. What do you wish to happen in terms of the city?"

"I leave the surface at your discretion, but make sure Maya is okay first, she and her team are the only ones that have seen the recent hell up close."

Seconds later an emergency call arrives to the office.

Two minutes after being alerted to Maya's arrival, Misato has arrived at the entrance to the Hospital Ward left over from years ago. "Where is she?!" she barks at a security guard.

"Ma'am, she has not arrived at this door yet, but she will arrive very soon, they just left the lift a mile away." he reports back.

Within seconds the sound of tires screeching to a halt, four medical students hurry out the doors to greet the vehicle and bring the patient in. Misato follows them and sees that her friend is tightly wrapped up in blankets from head to toe, "What happened to her?"

"The UN found her and a few other members of the ship she was on floating off the coast of Western Australia, near the city of Kalgoorlie. A team there began a rescue operation when they received a mayday from the ship, but they were unable to save most of the crew. We lost all but Ms. Ibuki here during transit from hypothermia. She has been out ever since we found her." relays a UN official in uniform.

"Bring her to room 18C and have a guard posted as a precaution, only Class B and above may go in expect for NERV Class personnel with proper ID's, understood?" she asks one of the students.

"Yes, Ma'am."

"I need to know the status of Antarctica during the past 24 hours. Bring any data you have to Room 3208. A guard will escort you down there, I will arrive in thirty minutes tops." she states to the UN official.

The next morning, in the home of Rei and Shinji, Kei sits in front of the television, watching the news reports concerning the unusual weather brewing on the surface.

"...Reports from all ends of the world have indicated this same batch of clouds coming up from the south at rapid speed. Scientific officials have no idea how or why but they have indicated that extreme caution is advised by staying indoors until more information is available. In other news, word on the rescued survivors of a shipwreck has arrived during the past hour. All but one member has died from either drowning or hypothermia. The sole survivor has been said to have arrived at Tokyo-3 University Hospital, further info is unavailable as to the identity of this person nor is the UN providing info on where the ship was coming from..."

"Kei, what are you doing?" asks Shinji as he enters the room.

"Watching the news. The sea will rise soon, father, be ready." she replies back rather plainly.

"What does that mean?"

"Father, you will find out soon, but you still have time to save those that do not wish to die."

"Kei, you are beginning to worry me, what is it..."

"An event from the past is about to repeat itself, one that will have the same affect that it did before, only the purpose will be different." she replies, tapping her feet together.

"Kei, I don't know what has gotten into you, but we can talk about this after school. Your mother and brother are ready to go, please get your shoes on so we are not late?"

"Yes, father." says Kei as she hurries to the front door in her school clothes.

Minutes after leaving their apartment complex located on the West End of the Geofront, they board the express train that will bring them to the surface and find a seat.

"Kei, I hope you enjoy your first day of school better than I enjoyed mine." says Rei in the vacant car she and her family are in.

"I am sure I will enjoy it. I will be starting kindergarten instead of junior high first, so I will have an easier time learning."

"Your father has already talked to the school about your status and they have agreed to help you out if needed. The teacher has some training in special needs but she will want to observe you before she plans out how to proceed. Try to make some friends in school please, you are still a kid..."

"Mother, I already know. You don't need to repeat this to me from yesterday. I may be different, but I am still the same as them."

"Kei, your mother is just a bit worried is all. You are our first born, and as parents we have to worry about you. But one thing we do ask is that you don't use your special abilities in class or on your brother, you are a child and should act like one."

"I understand. What are you going to do about Osamu?"

"Asuka said she knows someone that can watch him for the day. But don't worry though, you just enjoy your day at school." finishes Shinji as the train pulls to a stop at the first surface station.

Fifteen minutes later after arriving at the school, Shinji, Rei, Osamu, and Kei have arrived in the classroom and are greeted by the teacher, "Hello there, welcome to class

5-B, I am Misses Nihongo. Who might you be?" she asks Kei

"I am Kei Ikari, and this is my family."

"Hello, I am Kei's teacher, you must be Shinji and Rei, happy to meet you. And who is this hiding behind his mother?"

"This is our son, Osamu. You may see him next year." states Rei.

"Nice to meet you Osamu, would you like a piece of candy?"

The child behind Rei quickly nods and watches the teacher pull out a small object from a pocket then gives it to him. He wastes little time in getting the wrapper off and depositing the brown object into his mouth.

"If it is okay, I would like to ask a few questions about Kei here in private. Rei, how about we talk over at my desk?" asks Misses Nihongo.

Rei nods and follows the teacher with Osamu in tow, while Shinji and Kei start walking around the room. They reach another family and introduce themselves, "Hello there, I am Shinji Ikari, and this is my daughter, Kei."

"Hello there, I'm Shannon Kinzaki, and this is my younger son named Jon."

"Nice to meet you, Jon." responds Shinji, but receives no answer back from the small boy.

"Please don't mind him. He is a bit scared about his first day of school, as am I. I am hoping everything goes well."

"I am sure it will be okay. Kei here is excited to go to school."

Shinji and Kei continue meeting more parents and new students for another ten minutes until it is time for the class to begin. As the teacher formally introduces the class, Rei and Shinji are the last ones to leave the classroom and step into the hall, when they are almost run over by a lady and her child. Before they step into the classroom, Shinji freezes in his tracks as he gets a brief glance at the little boy's face.

"Excuse me for interrupting and arriving late. I was stuck on the edge of town for a while this morning." the lady blurts out.

"Quite alright, what are your names?" asks the teacher.

"I am Kallijo Nabiki, and this is Kaworu Jr."

"Well it's nice to meet you both." The teacher pauses for a moment and looks around the room for an open seat, "Ah, there we go. Kaworu, you can sit with Kei there in the second row. I am sorry Miss Nabiki but I am starting class now, so I will have to ask you to come back later so we can talk."

After hearing the small child's name, Shinji almost faints and runs down the hall so he is out of earshot of the classroom.

"Shinji, what is it?" quickly asks Rei, running after him.

"That boy...He...he looks like...like Kaworu." he eventually gets out.

"I noticed, there must be a reason for this."

"But Kaworu is gone, how could this boy look like him?"

"I don't know..."

Back in the classroom, Kei carefully watches a small boy walk up to the same table she is seated at and pull out a chair.

"Hello, you must be Kei, I am Kaworu."

"I know who you are..."

"As do I."

Kei turns around and stares towards the front of the room while Kaworu continues staring at his new partner with a humorus look.

"Okay class, we will start out the day with a fun exercise. I would like everyone to pull out their pencils and a piece of paper."

A half-hour later, Shinji and Rei have brought Osamu to the University's daycare center for the day so they can attend some meetings on the situation down south. Once they have arrived in the room holding the MAGI system they take their seats at the conference table.

"Thank you for coming, everyone. I am sure everyone here is aware of the reason why we are here so I will skip over the introduction and get to the points." states Fuyutsuki at the front of the table, "First, an update on Maya Ibuki's condition. Commander?"

"Maya Ibuki arrived this morning at 6:00 hours, after being examined for thirty minutes they have confirmed that she has not suffered any physical injuries, the worst thing that she suffered from is hypothermia in a severe degree. The other crewmembers have died already from the crisis and on the way here. A doctor is doing a constant monitoring on her condition but the report I have read states she will be okay. I am awaiting her awakening right now before I gather further info."

"Thank you. On to the next issue, the clouds that have formed recently on the surface."

Once again, Misato stand and presents her next report, "As a precaution, I plan on schools being shifted around to within the Geofront structure. The media has been informed that the clouds are merely an abnormal storm that happens once every 1000 years. As soon as we know more about the South Pole we will change that statement to something more truthful. In addition, the law enforcement officials have been put on a heightened status in case things go sour."

"Good job, Commander. The UN is demanding we start investigating the appearance of NERV-02 that was said to have disappeared. I have located Makoto and Shigeru and alerted them to what is happening. Makoto is preparing to go in with a team of UN troops to see if NERV-02 does exist again and to see if anyone is left. Shigeru was located in Chicago and has agreed to work for NERV again on the condition that he get his old position back, and I agreed to it."

"Sir, what is going to happen to the MAGI in terms of location and accessibility?" asks Asuka.

"As soon as you get the connections set you and Mr. Aida here will be allowed to designate the access and set up, as long as Ibuki, Hyuuga, and Aoba still have their access and positions they used to have. IA is still under your discretion though so don't worry about it for now..."

"Excuse me, but what is IA?" asks Kensuke.

"Soryu? Can you explain IA?"

"Inter-Access. You and I have been working on a scaled down version of the system for a while now. Simply put, it is the system that links the MAGI together, the creator developed it so they could build the MAGI. Only I am well versed in its full power due to knowledge given to me years ago..."

"Why didn't you tell me about this?"

"Mr. Aida, I think I can explain that. Since the MAGI were believed to be destroyed, I thought it would be best to bury the knowledge of IA's existence. I never thought the MAGI would restart again but I now see I was mistaken. Ms. Soryu here had agreed to help build a smaller version of the system for experimental purposes under my advisory. I apologize for denying this information from you."

"But Sir, if IA was that powerful, why hide it?"

"I was worried it might be used for something bad."

Back in the kindergarten classroom, Kei and Kaworu have begun to eat lunches made by their parents.

"Kaworu, who is your father?"

"I am not sure. My mother is dead though, my aunt cares for me now."

A second later, another small boy walks up to the pair, "Hello, I'm Chris, who are you?"

"My name is Kei."

"Kaworu."

"Wanna play?"

Kei looks at Kaworu's face for a moment before answering, "Umm...maybe later."

"Okay." replies the boy before running off. Kei waits until they are out of earshot before continuing, "Is something wrong?"

"No...I just want to talk to you for now."

"Why?"

"Because there is something different about you from the rest of everyone else here."

"Kensuke, I am the only one that can access the full power of IA, and for good reason. I know every single code on this system like the back of my hand, including the codes to keep you out of it."

After being dismissed, Asuka has brought Kensuke to the first level in what used to be Terminal Dogma.

"But why is it you knew more than the techs did five years ago?"

"I was given the knowledge unwillingly. Kei Ikari has a unique ability that allows her to communicate telepathically. She gave me the knowledge that only one other person held. the creator of the MAGI itself."

"Your joking, right? How can Kei Ikari have a skill like that, let alone have the knowledge of this computer system?"

"I DON'T KNOW! All I know is that she gave it to me and that is why I am good with computers now..."

"Asuka, what you are saying can't happen, Kei was a baby then!"

"Unborn actually..."

"I don't think you are telling me every..."

"File J-684. Read it, then come back and talk to me about this...please..."

"Sir, we need to start looking at the satellite images of the South Pole."

"I am aware of that, Commander, but right now we can't, not until we know about NERV-02."

"SIR!"

"I know you technically outrank me, but I am the head project manager and at the moment I want word on the impossible stuff first. NERV-02 vanished six years ago and I want to know how it could just reappear!"

After departing from the meeting themselves, the Professor and the Commander have headed to Fuyutsuki's office for a private meeting.

"Sir, if we don't look at what is going on now it may be too late by the time we do look!"

"Misato...there is nothing we can do right now about it anyway. Twenty years ago your father happened to mention in a report that they were unable to seek out Adam under the ice until they arrived in Antarctica and were within thirty miles of him. The satellites will not be able to help us right now."

"Did you get that from his personal notes?"

"No, I have not read them ever, I only read some of his reports that he sent back."

As the end of the school day has come, Kei and Kaworu pack up their belongings and await the arrival of their parents until an announcement comes over the intercom system, "Kaworu Nabiki, please report to the main office?"

The boy stands up and quickly pushes in his chair before running out of the room, 'Why did he run out like that?' wonders Kei as the teacher hurries after him.

Minutes later Shinji has arrived to pick up Kei.

A boy waits in the main office of the school building while his guardian speaks to the administrator about transferring the boy to another school. While he waits, he looks around at the cold interior for anything that interests him but ends up growing bored of that even and lets his mind wander some. Within seconds he picks up a conversation between a girl and her father.

"How was school, Kei?"

"Dull, except for Kaworu, he is nice."

After a noticeable pause the conversation continues, "Are you having trouble with the other students?"

"No, they are all nice to me, but Kaworu seems different than the rest of them..."

"H...how so?"

"I'm not really sure, but I feel like I already know him?.."

Kaworu quickly pulls away from the conversation as he sees his aunt exiting into the waiting area.

Kei has sensed an intrusion as well in her mind but is unable to figure out why so she puts in off until later when she is alone. "Father, what is it that is worrying you?"

"Heh, can't hide things from you I see..."

"I do have this special ability." replies Kei, smiling at her father.

"Well, I guess I can tell you, but don't say this to your mother..." He pauses to open the front doors for Kei then continues, "Your new classmate is familiar to me. I know it is impossible but I think I know him already from years ago. There was a boy named Kaworu that..."

"I already know the basics about him. So what is wrong?"

"Well, if he has come back, why didn't he come back older?"

"I do not think that is the same Kaworu you knew"

"I just don't know what to do..."

After arriving home, little Kaworu stands outside again the same way he did that morning but this time tries to reopen his connection to Kei's mind. Without success until he starts to feel a probing inside his mind from another person, 'Who are you?' he asks in his mind.

'I am known as Kei, who are you and how is it you have this ability?'

'Kei Ikari?'

'How do you know my surname?'

'It's Kaworu.'

Instantly Kei severs the connection, so Kaworu attempts to reopen it, with little success, 'Kei, why won't you communicate with me?'

Kei Ikari falls over, stunned after severing a link with someone like her, 'This can't be...' she thinks while at the same time Kaworu tries to reestablish the link.

'Kei, please talk to me?'

She blocks out the voice and goes to get something to eat from the kitchen where her parents are talking.

"Rei, I don't understand how Kaworu could have had a son, he was an Angel."

"I don't know how either, but I am guessing there is an explanation somewhere."

"I am so confused now. Kaworu was an Angel, not a human like us!.."

Kei grabs a small snack and quickly makes her way out of the kitchen.

'Kaworu, are you an Angel?'

'What is an Angel?'

'Your father was an Angel, so are you one as well?'

'I still don't understand?..'

"Kei, your mother and I need to head to the University for a short while, would you like to come with us?"

'I will explain tomorrow.' "Yes, father."

Minutes after arriving at Tokyo-3 University, Shinji has stopped in to talk to Toji down in the Astronomy classroom for a moment while Rei and Kei have headed towards the daycare area to pick up Osamu. "Hey Toji, got a moment?"

The black haired jock pauses from some work he is doing and looks up, "What's on your mind, man?"

"Well, I was wondering if I could ask a favor of you?"

"Anything."

"Well, in light of the recent events unfolding, I was wondering if Mari could...well..."

"Spit it out, Shinji."

"If she could maybe watch over Kei in school. I don't mean..."

"I see, you just want her to help if needed. Well, they are on opposite ends of the school right now but I guess she could keep tabs on your daughter. Why do you ask though?"

"It may be something stupid really...I just get the feeling something might happen to her..."

"I will ask her to do her best, and if anything shall happen I will let you know, okay?"

"Thanks, Toji. By the way, what are you working on?"

"Oh, this? Well, almost a year ago Hikari wanted to take me out to see the stars one night and we ended up going to Cypress Hill off to the west for the night. She pointed out as many constellations as she could to me. I was amazed though by how wonderful the sky looked so I started doing some reading on outer space. This term I decided on taking a class on the subject, so here I am."

"You have changed from the Toji I once met six years ago..."

"Time changes a person, and so does the fact that I almost died a few times. Mari and Hikari helped to make me understand life differently. Life is only what you make of it, and I want to make mine worthwhile."

"Well, I will let you get back to studying."

Toji nods and Shinji walks out of the room and in the direction of the daycare area. When he arrives, he sees Misato waiting there as well, "Shinji, Rei tells me you have run into some kind of mystery?"

"Err...yeah, something like that..."

"Care to tell me about it?"

He nods and motions for her to walk with him, "Today was Kei's first day of school. Her day went fine I guess but right as Rei and I were leaving this morning we...saw something impossible..."

"Like what?"

"Kaworu, or someone that looks very much like him..."

She freezes in mid step after hearing this information, "Are you sure?"

He stops a few meters away as well, "Yes, even has his name."

"Well, I doubt that he has come back, but if you are really that concerned about it try searching for whether he had any children before he came...wait, we don't have any records concerning his past..."

"I know, I want to find out the truth but don't know how to..."

"Well, I don't know what I can tell you that will help..." She is interrupted by the sound of her phone ringing, "Hello?"

<Commander, we are getting strange readings from the South Pole according to the MAGI.>

"What kind of readings, Kensuke?"

Both Shinji and Misato are startled by the sound of the medical alert sirens going off along with an announcement, <Code Blue, Daycare! Code Blue, Daycare!>

Both of them begin running back in the direction of the daycare area to find Rei trying to revive Kei, "Kei, wake up! WAKE UP!" she yells.

"Rei, what happened?" frantically asks Shinji.

"I don't know, she was fine up until about a minute ago!"

The medical students quickly arrive and see what is going on as they wheel in a stretcher. "Move her on, then bring her to Room 1201!" yells one of the doctors accompanying the students.

"Yes, Sir."

Misato quickly tries to pull a frantic Rei away from her daughter while yelling for the doctor, "Doctor, I need a sedative!"

Within seconds the doctor pulls out a small syringe filled with a yellow liquid and injects the contents into Rei, causing her to go relax in Misato's arms, "I presume this is the mother?"

"Correct, and that child is a Class B situation, medically."

"I will need you to accompany me to explain along the way. I will call for a second team to retrieve the mother."

Misato nods and turns towards Shinji, "Stay here with Rei, I will contact you soon on Kei's condition."

On the surface, a similar situation is unfolding with a little boy, "KAWORU! Kaworu, speak to me!"

After a minute of unresponsiveness, the aunt runs into the house and calls for help. Ten minutes later she is greeted by a pair of paramedics, who quickly load the boy into the vehicle, then instruct her to follow them down to the Geofront in her own vehicle.

An hour passes before Shinji and Rei hear any word on their daughter.

"Rei, sorry about having to drug you, but you were starting to lose it." apologizes Misato before continuing, "Kei is stable again but the doctor would like to keep her here for a bit longer to check on her brainwaves. I did call Hikari and she has arrived as well to review the records. Osamu has been taken care of as well and is residing with Mari at her place right now until you pick him up."

"Does the doctor know what happened?" asks Rei.

"No, but I think I do. At about the same time Kei went down the MAGI picked up some odd readings from the South Pole, the same area where the Second Angel is located right now. I am guessing they affected her somehow."

"Can we go in and see her?"

"You can't Rei until the Doctor checks your blood levels, but Shinji is allowed to look into the room for now until Hikari and the doctor have finished. The air inside is stale for the purpose of stabilization and testing."

"Looks like Maya has awoken. I have to go, business."

"Bye, Misato." says Shinji as she walks out the door.

'I am starting to get a bad feeling about this...' she thinks as she walks down the hallway to the elevator. Moments after she has boarded it and the doors have closed, a bed is wheeled past holding a small boy in it. "Wheel him to room 1205." orders one of the doctors.

"Doctor, what is the current waveform readings for the patients brainwaves?"

"Mostly stable with the exception to two momentary spikes within the last fives minutes, Ms. Horaki."

"Doctor, do another scan of the forward part of her brain and tell me if anything has changed?"

After finally choosing her own study courses in Tokyo-3 University, Hikari decided to become a doctor, one that works on the brain to be exact. A year ago she had been approached by Misato with a special project and ended up becoming one of Kei's doctors in the end. Currently she is going over the notes from the last physical dated six months prior to see what has changed.

"Ms. Horaki, the charts haven't changed any."

"Then I guess whatever caused her to fall was an isolated case. You are free to release her when you are ready."

After gathering up her current notes, Hikari leaves the testing room and goes off in the direction of Rei's room. As she arrives she notices a look of worry on the girl's face, "Rei, is something wrong?"

"Oh, Hikari. How is Kei?"

"I see nothing that would suggest head trauma, nor anything within the brain's frontal lobs that would be a problem. As far as I can tell, she is fine, the doctor is finishing up now as we speak. But I am here to see you, are you feeling okay?"

Rei turns over so her back is to her friend, "I don't know. Misato said that Kei went down about the same time the Second Angel did something. I am worried now..."

"Well, from what I saw on the charts there is nothing wrong with her at all. I am thinking it was an isolated incident..."

"When will I be free to go?"

"Right now, I cleared it with the doctor so you are free to leave this room. I know how much you hate these rooms after what you went through years ago. If you can excuse me, I have someone else to look at that seems to be having a similar problem to Kei's."

****************

"Misato, it was awful...the ice...it vanished in a single blast...ship got hit by rocks..."

"Maya, take your time. You have been through hell and need to rest some. All I need to know right now is what you saw in the ice?"

"A light, then an object...white...then the ice started to fall and we left..."

"Get some rest for now. Have someone call me when you feel better, you and I will need to talk."

"Yes...Commander..."

Misato nods and watches Maya close her eyes as she relaxes in bed again to go to sleep, 'Hell is upon on, God help us all...'

Hikari has arrived in Room 1205 and picks up the medical chart at the end of the bed, 'Hmm...no visible trauma...vitals are okay...just like Kei Ikari, odd. I wonder what the brain looks like...'

She replaces the chart and walks up to a machine located in the room used for x-rays and brain scans, then positions it so the head is the target and walks out of the room.

After making sure the room is secured she moves to the room next door and scans the child's head to study. As soon as the scans are complete she views them and gasps as she notices a similarity between Kei and this child named Kaworu, 'O god, I better contact Misato...'

She picks up the phone and dials the Commander's phone only to find it is in use.

"Yes, Sir. Maya Ibuki has awoken from her coma state. She is sleeping now but has given hints to a possible Angel awakening at the South Pole. We have very little info on this one. Yes, I am aware of the appearance of NERV-02 in Nevada, one of the prior NERV personnel is there right now I presume gathering information. Yes, I will call you when I have more info. Understood Admiral."

She hangs up the phone and stares out into the Geofront area outside her office, 'If Maya is right about what she saw, we will need an Eva to defeat it...I hope Eva-04 is still intact.'

She is interrupted by the sound of the door opening behind her, "Sir, I have contacted the U.N Council and informed them of the situation." reports Misato.

"Very good, Commander. How is Maya doing?"

"She is awake from her coma state, but she is still disoriented right now from the events. I will check on her again later but I was able to get a bit of info out before she went to sleep. She said something was in the ice."

"The Second Angel, I presume?"

"I believe so as well. I have yet to hear back from Makoto on NERV-02 but am expecting a call at any time."

"What about the Media?"

"They are sticking to the story since I can't provide proof of something different, but they are starting to wonder about the clouds since they now cover the entire globe. The air temp is going down slowly outside and if these clouds don't disappear soon there will be a problem."

"I understand that. Prepare to gather orbital images from the South Pole, I am guessing the next stage has begun."

"Cooling system is holding stable for MAGI, preparing for up-link stage." reports Kensuke.

"University computers are ready for connections to IA and MAGI at any time."

"Stand by for IA to connect. Asuka, I am sorry I doubted you about how you got the knowledge concerning IA."

She stops monitoring the University computers and looks at Kensuke, "Look, if it hadn't been for her I wouldn't have even considered life after Eva. She provided me with a new type of hope when I really had none. I was a pilot, nothing more. Then she implanted this knowledge into my head and I used it to help Kei and Rei out for the birth. I almost regretted how I treated Rei in the beginning..."

"Well, by the looks of it, you made up for it by being there when you were needed most. You should be happy about that my dear. Let the past go, you did your good deed, now let the current times roll."

"I know, but now that an Angel has come back, I am worried about what could happen now..."

"IA is connecting...now, connections have enabled and been accepted. Ready for MAGI connections...standing by for BMC order. Well, if you are really that worried, talk to Rei about it since as I understand it she is part Angel."

"I think I will later, but for now I would like to get this finished so I can stop worrying about it."

"Connections made by MAGI in proper order. Full control of complex has been routed to the MAGI."

In a location far away from the Geofront, Tokyo-3, or even Japan for that matter, at the bottom of the earth a bright light already present dims out quickly as an object starts to rise out of the water in the shape of an angelic wing. Soon, a larger mass starts rising as well that looks like a body, last a head rises out of the water, showing a white creature in the dim light present off the horizon. The creature appears to have no eyes at first glance but is still able to scan its surroundings somehow as it turns to gather its bearings. Indeed, what has yet to happen to the world may be about to happen unless something stops events from playing out.

Two days later, after receiving several images from the South Pole from orbit, Misato and Fuyutsuki sit within a small room located inside a storage bay once used as an Eva cage, going over several personal notes and images from twenty years prior.

"These images are not very clear from back then." sighs Misato as she stares at a computer screen.

"The imagery equipment from back then wasn't very impressive like it is today. Your father had the best there was in digital imaging equipment. But despite the poor quality I am guessing we can still use them."

"I hope so, all I can see is a big mass of white from back then..."

"Look closer at the white. By the looks of the imaging there are two sections instead of one like they thought."

"How are you seeing that?"

The professor leans forward and traces his finger along a slightly darker spot in the shape of a line, "Because this spot extends from both ends of the object. If you remember correctly about the Eighth Angel, Sandalphon, Asuka had to be sent in to get a better look at the Angel still in its egg, the images sent back from the volcano to NERV were very poor in quality, but bits and pieces were identifiable to us. The most current images to survive depicting the South Pole are indicating that there is only one blob now, and that it is more defined. I think the Second is gaining strength for its awakening..."

"Maya said that she was picking up heat from the object before hell broke loose in the area. She believes that it is what caused the ice to fall apart."

"Commander, I think it is time to contact the UN with this info and start planning for an evacuation."

"Agreed."

"What did Makoto report on NERV-02?"

The Commander types in a few keystrokes and watches the display change in a flicker, "Well, he reported that the complexes shown here are undamaged for some reason but they found no one present. The good news they reported was that they found two Eva's present..."

"Two Eva's?"

"Correct, the Second Angel must have been in the development stage when the area vanished and must have grown somehow..." She types up a few more commands and is greeted to the image of a new Eva, "...this Eva was found close by to Eva Unit-04 and both appear to be fully intact

After hearing a beep Hikari speaks, "Misato, this is Hikari, I have been trying to contact you for the past few days about something you need to see right away. Please contact me after you hear this message."

She hangs up the phone and goes back to looking at the scans she held on to depicting Kaworu's brain, along with another image from Kei's brain scan, 'Misato, where are you?'

"Kaworu, time for dinner. Please come inside?" yells someone from a house on the surface.

A little boy stares at the sky where dark clouds had been a few days earlier and ponders the sky, totally ignoring his guardian in the process.

"Kaworu, NOW!"

"Yes, Aunt Kallijo..."

In the Ikari house, Shinji and Rei continue working on their homework for their classes in college. Shinji's consists of Trigonometry and Building Design, something that he plans on being part of someday once he finishes school. Rei's is History and Chemistry. She still does not know her career plans but current interests are revolving around science, something she was once a large part of years ago.

In the next room are Kei and Osamu, watching TV while their parents study, or at least that is what is supposed to be happening. Kei has decided to wander off to the kitchen to get something to eat.

"Kei, where are you going?" asks Rei without looking up from her homework.

"I am hungry, so..."

"Dinner will be in a little bit. Please just watch your brother?"

"Yes, mother..." the girl replies and wanders back into the room she was in and plops down next to her brother.

After about a minute goes by, Kei's face goes blank as she begins to sense something different inside her mind. As the feeling grows stronger bit by bit she starts to feel a burning sensation grow. After a minute has passed she realizes what is going on and cries out, "IT'S-"

"-AWAKE" cries out Kaworu from the kitchen table.

"Kaworu, what is awake?" his guardian snaps back after being surprised by his outburst.

"Gangeriel, it's awa...AAAH!!!!"

The small boy's eyes go wide before he falls over and grips his head in pain as the ground begins to shake underneath them.

"KAWORU, HOLD ON!"

The aunt reaches for the phone and finds out the lines are dead. She tosses the handset to the floor and picks up Kaworu to rush him to the hospital, not expecting the house to start falling down upon her.

"AAAAAAAAAH!!!" cries out two people at the same time in the Ikari house. Both Rei and Kei fall over and grip their heads in pain similar to Kaworu.

"REI, KEI!!!'" cries out Shinji as the ground violently shakes underneath. Shinji quickly picks up his daughter and orders Osamu to get his cell phone while he brings Kei closer to Rei and shields them from possible falling debris.

As soon as he has the phone and the shaking stops he places an emergency call to Misato's office and hears the line is jammed. After hanging up he makes one more call to the closest person he can with a vehicle.

<Hello?> asks the voice on the other end.

"Mari, this is Shinji Ikari, are your guardians there?!"

"Tell him to come get me, Rei and Kei have passed out for some reason and Misato can't be reached!"

He hears a pause over the phone before a new voice comes on, <Shinji, give me five minutes!>

At the South Pole a bright light makes itself known from what appear to be eyes on the creature as the water begins to churn around it. It raises its wings higher into the air in a stretching motion before scanning the horizon once again, stopping as it spots a tiny object in the air. Soon a bright light is emitted in the direction of what has come to be the world's camera on the bottom of the earth. Once the light grows dull the object ceases to exist in the sky. Indeed, It has awoken as the water is blasted as well, creating a massive tidal wave that moves away from It, heading for lands where water has already hit in a previous event.

Down in the Tokyo-3 University complex, multiple alarms sound as the ground shakes, tossing people to the ground all over the place. Located in a now restricted room several screens change to display mass alerts, both internal and external. Asuka and Kensuke patiently wait in a darkened room for the ground to stop shaking. When it does they pick themselves up off the ground and return to their chairs to start analyzing the problems present.

"Kensuke, I have lost two thirds of the power mains to the lower and mid sections, high floors are totally cut off for communications and power!"

"Surface has suffered damage and all power is down. Communications are limited to the extreme western sections!"

Seconds later they hear the door open behind them and see Maya stumble in to the room, holding her head, "What is the status!"

"Maya, what happened?!" shouts Asuka before she manages to silence the alarms.

"Never mind me, what is the status!"

"Currently we have lost power to most of the complex and on the surface. The MAGI suffered zero damage but we have not been able to analyze everything yet."

"Pull up the South Pole's current view."

Kensuke frantically begins to search for the satellite but fails after a minute of trying, "No good, Orbiter is gone."

Maya rushes to a third chair in the room and begins calling up data on the surface. Once she finds a satellite she calls up the topographical image on a larger screen, "Holy SHIT! Huge tidal waves present moving at 50 meters per second! Closing in on the city of Kalgoorlie!"

They all stop and watch the wave approach the coastal city before it is wiped out in a single swipe, "Whoa..." says Kensuke.

"ALERT THE SURFACE, QUICK!" yells a voice from the doorway.

Everyone turns around to see Misato, "Surface communications are limited to the extreme western sections. Not enough time to get peo..." starts Asuka.

"DO IT!!!"

The Ikari and Suzuhara families arrive at the entrance to the hospital in the University minutes later and are greeted by security personnel, "We are clo..."

"Shut up and gets a few beds out here! Then call Commander Katsuragi and tell her Shinji is here!" Shinji barks at a guard.

Within seconds a few beds are brought out and doctors wheel three persons into the hospital. "Take the first two to Room 3204 and the second one goes to 3205!" one of them orders to the rest before turning to the three males and female still present, "Come with me. We have suffered damage and will have to move you to a third room for now to be checked out."

"What about Katsuragi?" asks Toji.

"No communications right now, we are lucky to have power."

"Then call Professor Kozo Fuyutsuki's cell number!"

As four people watch the screen in the MAGI room to see the progression of the tidal waves they are startled by the sound of a phone ringing.

"Katsuragi."

<Commander, we have a few problems. Mass injuries within the Geofront and building, among them are Rei, Kei, and Hikari Horaki. Come to the hospital as soon as you can.>

"Sir, that may be difficult. A series of tidal waves are heading this way, estimate two minutes."

< How large?>

"Large enough to reach the surface of Tokyo-3 and cause moderate damage..."

"No damage."

Once again the ground violently shakes as the waves reach the surface sooner than expected, "REPORT!" shouts Misato before the screens flicker, then go dead.

"MAGI has lost power." replies Asuka as she gets up off the ground.

"Maya, Kensuke, get it back on! Asuka, follow me!"

On the surface of the city, a tangled mess of what used to be houses and small buildings is all that remains as neighbors quickly scrounge for people they know. In one spot a mass rescue operation is underway for a family that had their house fall down before the water hit.

"Help me get this wall off of here!"

Three people quickly run up to a spot where a fourth person is standing.

"What is it?"

"I heard a voice below. Hurry up!"

Within a few moments the totally soaked neighbors manage to quickly lift what was once a wall and continue removing other assorted pieces of a house until they reach the source.

"Help...us...please..." calls out a badly injured young lady holding a small unconscious boy underneath her."

"WE NEED A VEHICLE OVER HERE!"

Within the walls of a damaged hospital, Misato and Asuka hurry to the room Shinji is residing in for the time being. When they have arrived they see that Shinji has a few bandages on his back, Osamu with a broken finger on his right hand, Mari with a few scratches on her face, and Toji with a bandage wrapped around his head.

"What the hell happened to all of you?" asks Asuka.

"The ground shook and we got hurt!" snaps Shinji.

"Where are Rei, Kei, and Hikari?"

"Separate rooms for now."

"Asuka, how about you bring Mari and Osamu to a vending machine that works and get them something to eat while I talk to their guardians." asks Misato as she hands the girl some coins.

"Mari, Osamu, lets go get something to eat. Would you like that?" asks Asuka as the three of them leave the room.

When she sees they are alone, Misato closes the door, "Okay, here is what just happened. The surface has been hit by a tidal wave. Most of the University is without power and communications have been affected. I am not sure what caused this but I think it is safe to say the Second..."

"...Has awoken, Kei already indicated that to me...before she collapsed." interrupts Shinji.

"I see...I am guessing that is why she is in a different room...along with Rei?"

He nods his answer to her.

"Toji, what about Hikari?"

"She got hit by a thick book on the head..."

"I'm sorry about that. You are now considered Class B NERV. That means that you are being given access to the more restricted areas about to be set up. The UN will be contacted once communications are back up. Prepare to attend a meeting as soon as we get...' she pauses as she hears shouting from the end of the hall and opens the door.

"Hey you can't come in here!"

"I have two injured people here!! Let me in!"

She quickly runs out of the room to see what the problem is, "What is going on here?!"

"Ma'am, I have two injured people out there that need attention. They were crushed when their house caved in."

"Doctor, do we have any room?"

"No, we are full right now. I don't have..."

"KAWORU!"

The doctor and Misato turn to see Shinji ready to fall over and look at the person he sees. Misato notices the small boy and takes the situation over, "Doctor, make room for these two patients, I don't care how just do it, and have someone guard the room!"

"Commander?!"

"Do it! They are a security risk!"

Several levels down and a distance away, Maya and Kensuke frantically work to clear the debris blocking the sub-station room for the MAGI's power needs after the last jolts collapsed part of the room inside.

"Help me lift this beam." says Maya as she prepares to remove the last obstacle.

Kensuke quickly grabs the opposite end and lifts upward, finally allowing access to the inside after it is put off to the side.

"Quick, unlock the door."

"I don't have the key..."

"Why not?"

"Because this isn't an area I have access to!"

Maya quickly gets an idea and grabs the beam that had fallen to drop onto the door handle a couple times until it gives out.

Two minutes later the handle buckles in, Maya manages to tear it off the door soon after.

"Give me a screwdriver or something."

Kensuke quickly starts searching for a flat object to use as a handle while Maya tinkers with the insides of the door lock.

Once they manage to open the door they find out the reason immediately for the MAGI's failure.

"Kensuke, disable the inputs so I can climb on top and start the repairs to the rail-bars!" yells Maya as she grabs a toolkit in the corner, "Why is it this is the only power source?"

"The professor didn't think the MAGI would ever be the same so he never had a backup system installed for it. I am guessing that will change very quickly now that we need it. Input disabled."

Maya quickly grabs a disc grinder and climbs on top of the power substation to cut away a fallen metal object in the shape of a light. Kensuke prepares to restore the power once she is clear.

As soon as the object is freed, Maya tosses it aside and jumps clear of the high voltage circuits, "Do it!"

The boy quickly wastes little time in reapplying power and is greeted to a light shower of sparks before a loud hum is heard, "MAGI active."

Hours later, after maintenance crews and the MAGI workers have restored most areas of Tokyo-3, the Geofront, and the University, a meeting has been called concerning the two newcomers to the puzzle of what is going on. Hikari has recovered some and Rei and Kei have awoken again. Mari has brought Kei and Osamu to a different location since the meeting is a private one.

"Everyone, I am glad you have been able to make it in today. I will be blunt, the Second Angel has awoken and was the cause of the tremors we suffered as well as the waves that hit the surface. I have spoken to one of the teams that are going over the damage to the roof of the Geofront and they have claimed that one of the shutter vents did break loose and hit a neighborhood when the water slammed into it. Casualties are in the millions at this hour throughout the world, the guess is a quarter of the population has been killed, the does include the casualties we have suffered underground. Two orbiter satellites were destroyed as well when the Second willed it..."

"Its name is Gangeriel." adds Rei.

"How are you sure?"

"I just know..."

"Then the name will be added to the records later. Misato, I understand that we have two persons under guard?"

"Correct, Sir. It was due to Shinji Ikari that I noticed a possible problem that one boy might be."

"Can you explain?"

She walks up to a computer and calls up data on the Seventeenth Angel's appearance, "This as some of you know was the Seventeenth." She enters data for new files before continuing, "This is Karowu Nabiki. As you can see they have the same appearance and first name. I thought it would be best if they were held under guard until we could get answers..."

"Commander?"

"Yes, Hikari?"

"There is more that you do not know yet...I have been trying to contact you for two days now without success..." The girl stands up and approaches the computer to call up two files, "The one on the right is Kei Ikari's recent brain scan, I took it after she collapsed the first time. The one on the right...is the boy's brain. He was brought in for the same symptoms as Kei was. Simply put, the brains match on the frontal lobes where Kei gets her...abilities from..."

Everyone in the room stares quietly at the screen for several seconds before the professor speaks up, "I want this kept top secret. Get all records on this Nabiki family concerning this boy and classify them as Class A files. Katsuragi and Horaki are to begin researching the medical files and perform tests while Ibuki is to look at the data files on the history. Soryu and Aida are to gather as much info on the Angel as they can and get a better image of the current status of the earth. Ikaris are to fly out to NERV-02 and meet Hyuuga to get a closer look at the Evas. Suzuharas will head the repairs for the University for me while I deal with the UN on the latest events. This is a dire situation everyone, we need to restructure as fast as possible. DISMISSED."

An hour later, after performing a few tests on the two patients under guard, Hikari and Misato have begun gathering the needed info on the boy and the mother.

"Set the ionization unit to 30 PMI's, then radiate the blood sample on the table there for the boy." orders Hikari.

The Commander follows orders and starts the machine in front of her, "What will this thing do to the blood?"

"The machine was built as a way of searching out deadly toxins in the bloodstream, but it can also be used to pick up foreign anti-bodies. Simply put it amplifies any unknown substances so that we can detect it."

"Sounds complicated..."

"Not really. During my studies and treatments I have been taught a lot about the bloodstream and how it affects the brain when drugs are in it."

"But what about special cases?"

"You mean like Kei?"

"Yeah..."

"Well, her blood is artificially modified from what it should have been. Gendo Ikari made a mess of the sciences when he impregnated Rei as I have discovered. Kei has a unique type of blood that the head doctors here classified as K Positive, a type of blood that can be made in a lab if needed from existing human blood."

"So what is the reason for you wanting to radiate this sample?"

"I want to see if the blood is the same or if it is normal..." She hears the machine next to her beep and pulls out a tissue sample, "This part I am working on here is to see what the skin is made of."

Misato wanders over to the same table Hikari is at and awaits the results. Within a minute one is delivered, "99.89% similar to human composition, genes-wise..."

"Like an Angel."

"There is more. The tissue sample is still human in structure. I think this is a hybrid of some kind."

The machine Misato was near finishes up. Hikari walks over to it and grabs the tongs nearby since the sample can't be touched by bare skin yet. She moves it over to a new machine and starts running tests on the glowing liquid inside, "It will a few moments before we gets some results."

As the machine finishes up the testing Hikari watches data appear on a screen close by, "The blood is like Kei's blood except Negative. No drug traces of any kind have been detected. Red and White cells are fine...this is a natural blood sample, nothing artificial about it..."

"So what are you saying?"

"That however this child came to be it was done through a natural birth, nothing unnatural about it."

"Can you call up the parents?"

Hikari starts searching the medical files for more information until she hits a special case, "Interesting, this person right here gave birth to a child with the same results that we have here, yet no flags went up during that time..."

"What person?"

"Leana-Anne-"

"-Nabiki. Age 15 when she had Kaworu Nabiki Junior..." says Misato as she presents the medical findings to the Professor and the rest of the persons involved, minus the Ikaris, "...She died two years later from an illness that wasn't able to be identified at the time. Currently Kallijo Nabiki, Kaworu's Aunt, Age 21, is his guardian. That is the same person that was brought in with him earlier. Her current condition is serious, she suffered internal bleeding, broken bones, and a bad head injury. The doctors I spoke with are unsure she may live much longer."

"What about the Mother?"

"According to the records that we found she had met someone shortly before the Seventeenth Angel arrived at NERV five years ago. Kaworu Jr. has some angelic qualities similar to Kei, except that they are natural. I am starting to think Kaworu Nagisa had impregnated this girl on her own free will before coming here to carry out his last duty which everyone here should know the result of. According to the tests done the boy poses zero danger to anyone, but I would still like to suggest putting him into foster care for now."

"Due to the nature of the situation, I don't think any foster care will do."

"Sir, I would like to recommend that the boy be placed in my care for now at least until a more suitable person is found."

"I think it is best for you to brush up on your parenting skills again."

Misato is, to say the least, shocked by his statement, "Excuse me?"

"I think you should care for the child instead, on a prolonged basis. Maya, what did you discover as far as history?"

"Sir, the mother was a high school student at the time she had the child, her studies were average according to her grades. She was planning on going into a paleontology field when she got out but ended up being a mother instead. She had a sister of course that was handed the child when the mother got sick and died at 17. The sister moved here about three years ago to attend the University and become a teacher. Kaworu Nabiki has, according to my findings, been a friendly boy, rarely got into trouble and is attending the same school as Kei Ikari, right down to the teacher and table."

"So, fate has brought this boy to us. Thank you Ibuki. What is the latest on the Angel?"

Asuka stands up and delivers her report, "Currently it is in a period of stasis, I believe it needs to recharge after what it has done. From what Aida could determine, this Angel is partway underground but could be able to change that at a moments notice. Gangeriel, as Rei called it, is able to spawn if it desires. Due to the Angel's ability to disable our eyes on it we have not been able to gather further info."

"Understood, what about the world?"

Asuka sits back down as Kensuke stands, "I have been able to determine that every piece of land that existed below the equator has been wiped out. Land up to the Tropic of Cancer was hard hit as well by the tidal waves and only the mid to high lying areas were not hit, the island of Japan has been shrunken once again by heavy waves. It is my guess that the state of California has been wiped out on the western side finally by continental shifts, NERV-02 was shielded by the Rocky Mountains from what I can tell. As for the impact on the population, I am predicting at least a billion have been killed..."

"Very good Aida. What is the status of the city?"

"Sir, the surface has almost totally been wiped out, severe damage occurred when the wave crashed into it. The Geofront suffered damage as well and the repair teams are predicting weeks of repairs before things are close to normal. As for Tokyo-3 University, the interior took heavy damage as seen but most systems are back up again, ones that are not are being repaired as fast as possible."

"I leave it in your hands. The UN is working on reestablishing NERV once again as a functional division. NERV-02 is under Katsuragi's discretion as of 16:00 hours as well as this branch. I will be gathering teams soon for the jobs to be done, everyone considered Class B is a part of the executive levels for the purpose of being part of the original NERV system."

A few hours later, the Ikaris sit in a VTOL aircraft on its way to Nevada, USA. The four occupants of the coach area patiently wait for the trip to end as they near the destination known as NERV-02.

"Shinji, I am worried about that report Misato has sent us..."

"As am I, this is considered Third Impact for the world. Eva is back meaning that new people have to be found as pilots..."

"Due to the unique standards that NERV had for the Eva's long ago, I am doubting that anyone will do..."

Seconds after departing from the plane the Ikari family is greeted by a familiar face.

"Shinji, Rei, long time no see. Sorry that the conditions couldn't be better..." yells Makoto over the jet noise as he runs up to them.

"Tell me about it, my back still hurts."

"Misato informed me before your arrival that you have your kids with you. We have set up a spot for them to wait if you wish."

"Osamu here could use a nap, but Kei will be coming with us because of her situation." says Rei.

"Understood, Rei. I will have one of the female staff members bring him to a safer location for now and meet you at the control rooms for the cages." replies Makoto as he leads the way.

Several minutes after leaving the airport, Makoto, Shinji, Rei, and Kei have arrived at the surface entrance to NERV-02, "Welcome to NERV-02 everyone. The facility is fully functional and in great shape. It looks like whatever happened was able to preserve the freshness of this place with exception to the personnel that used to be here. We will be taking the express car down to MAGI-02 first so that you can do the up-links for the MAGI. A report has been sent to us concerning world events already as well." reports Makoto as two large elevator doors slide open, "After you."

The ride downward is a quick one for the quintet as they enter NERV-02's inner walls. Once the doors open they are lead to a large room that looks like a copy of the original central control room at NERV, "This MAGI's systems have been thoroughly tested and found to be working perfectly. All that it is waiting for is to be connected to the original MAGI."

Shinji nods and walks up to the panels for the master operators, 'How did Asuka say to do this?' he thinks as he studies the panels. After a few seconds of thinking he begins entering a few commands and watches the screen begin searching for the correct systems. Once he finishes he is rewarded to a confirmation beep, "I think that does it, NERV has control."

"Then I will take you to the cages next so you can see the Evas."

"MAGI-02 connection successful. Moving on to testing phase." reports Asuka from IA where the connections were set in stone.

"Systems test normal so far for operational status of structure. Cooling system is nominal. Remote controls are set."

"Kensuke, what is the status of the defenses there?"

"All are fully operational."

"Then begin the scans of the security system for any modifications or problems, no matter how small."

In the Eva cage, Rei, Kei, Shinji, and Makoto get a closer look at the thought to be lost Evas in front of them.

"As you can see, they are still intact and the first stage startup connections registered okay for Unit-04. As for the other unit, we are awaiting the finishing touches on the programming for it. My guess is that the funding here had allowed for extra money so they started work on a fifth Eva without alerting anyone. They even had the armor ready for it."

"Makoto, can you show me the schematics for Unit-04?"

Makoto nods and directs Shinji towards the control room. Rei and Kei decide to stay behind to look at the Evas closer.

Once they are in the control room, Shinji is led to a table with some files on it, "Is this all that exists?"

"Yes, I made sure that the files were fully intact before you arrived here."

"Do they have plugs already?"

"Yes, the plugs are in the Evas right now, both of them."

"You mean the entry plug for the unnamed Eva is already built?"

The older man nods as he sees a tech enter the room, "Osamu is located off-base for now with a UN officer."

"Thank you."

They are all interrupted from their studying when they hear an alarm go off for the cage. Makoto instantly calls up the data and discover that Unit-04 has started up for some reason, "Who is the pilot?!" yells Shinji.

No one answers as a view of the interior is called up, "Oh my..."

Back at the University, Misato has been alerted to a problem as well and rushed down to the MAGI room to check it out, once she arrived she was greeted by an image that she wasn't expecting, "What the hell is this?!" she yells.

"Kei has climbed into an Entry Plug on her own somehow." reports Maya.

"What are they doing there?"

"This was not a planned thing, the Eva started up on it's own and...Eva hasn't rejected Kei!"

"What do you mean?"

"Kei's sync ratio is 85%...on first activation...in a combat model..."

Everyone in the room continues to stare at the image of Kei Ikari sitting in the Entry Plug of the Eva as they stay silent.

Omakes, they never end.

"Help me lift this beam." says Maya as she prepares to remove the last obstacle.

Kensuke quickly grabs the opposite end and lifts upward, finally allowing access to the inside after it is put off to the side.

"Quick, unlock the door."

"Give me a moment, I have this huge key ring of 3000 keys to search through..."

After waiting for a half-hour, Maya quickly gets an idea and grabs the beam that had fallen to drop onto the door handle a couple times until it gives out.

Two minutes later the handle buckles in, Maya manages to tear it off the door soon after.

"Give me a screwdriver or something."

Kensuke quickly starts searching for a flat object to use as a handle while Maya tinkers with the insides of the door lock.

Once they manage to open the door they find out the reason immediately for the MAGI's failure.

...cut part to save space...

Maya quickly grabs a disc grinder and climbs on top of the power substation to cut away a fallen metal object in the shape of a light. Kensuke prepares to restore the power once she is clear.

As soon as the object is freed Maya tosses it aside and signals for power to be restored, "Do it!"

The boy quickly wastes little time in reapplying power and is greeted to a light shower of sparks before a loud hum is heard, along with a loud scream from Maya who forgot to climb down first, "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!.."

"Oops..." utters Kensuke as he quickly makes his way out of the room to avoid watching Maya suffer more.

Notes:

This is the key chapter for where they are now, remember that for when I bring up career choices later. Yes, this is a continuation of Rei's Child, my original series. This continuation is being co-written with the help of someone else [Kei Ikari is the person's name]. She is the creator of Kaworu Jr. so if you want to use him you have to ask her, this was her original brainstorm and I only helped to reform it into a larger story. For this part, you got a first hand look at Tabris's son, conceived shortly before he got to NERV if you missed that part. The Omake is just something that came to me, Jon L., at one point while writing, it is crude but makes a good alternate part since I never said she got clear of the power lines in the original version. Anyhow, I hope you like this continuation, feel free to send requests for picture ideas and so on. This side story will not be as long as the original story. The idea of the Second Angel and the name of it DOES NOT MEAN that it is an Eva fact, only how I saw it possibly happening.
